What a weird and unsettling study of humanity. It reminds me a lot of that Marina Abramovic performance where people could do whatever they wanted to her and as she stood in silence, the things people did grew more and more violent. Was it just because she had no say in it? Or had no right to say anything? This book is a longer meditation on that.

It’s such an interesting look at how performative being ‘socially acceptably good’ is.

I think the kentukis were so creepy to me because of the dissonance between the cute plushie exterior and the human-to-a-fault people controlling them. And I LOVED IT

If you're here because you read [b:Fever Dream|30763882|Fever Dream|Samanta Schweblin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1471279721l/30763882._SX50_.jpg|42701168], you should know that Little Eyes is more conventional in every way, although the writing maintains the same engrossing quality. I was pleased to discover that the crux of the horror has far less do with with panopticons etc. than the necessity of negotiating intimacy against the threat of violence in relationships where power is inherently unevenly distributed.

I expected more from this. The concept is genious and the world the author built seemed so realistic and convincing. I was so interested in learning about all these different people around the world and their experiences with these new pets. However, I was expecting that all of the perspectives would lead to some grand event at the end but ever, single storyline just ended and even though I can kind of see what the author's intention was, I ended up disappinted because I hoped for more horror-like plot but this was not it. It's a solid book and I still enjoyed it quite a lot but I thoughrlt it would be something different than what it ended up being.
