I loved reading about Flint and Harbinger in Skin, so when I had the opportunity to receive an ARC for more of them, I couldn’t say no.
The book starts off with a hot bang as Flint (gargoyle) and Harbinger (banshee) set off to meet their next client. Young girls have been disappearing, and the only lead that they have is Agony, a night terror from the serial killer’s mind. The night terror becomes tied to Harbinger, so they take him with them on their investigation. While Agony was intent on doing what he does best, he starts falling for the pair. He becomes my favorite part of their triad, and he ends up bridging the gap between Flint and Harbin. Their scenes were absolutely scorching, and the fact that Agony could change forms really amplified their scenes.
The investigation takes them on a personal journey, where they share and grow from their pasts that have haunted them. The last quarter was extremely suspenseful; I think I held my breath more often than not. Our triad went through so much, but they came out even stronger. They had the perfect ending.

Agony is probably my favorite character that Aveda Vice has written.

I really enjoyed Agony’s character and the entire dynamic around what he was and how they grew to trust them. I got a little bored in the middle with the emotional angst between Harbringer and Flint. It was drawn out and just kind of unnecessary. Flints big secret seemed underwhelming when revealed. And the overall mystery plot really took too long to advance. I lost interest. But the spicy scenes?! Those were really hot!

I went into this figuring it’d be a steamy little monster romance, maybe with some dark themes and an interesting, mysterious plot, but I wasn’t expecting to CRY SO MUCH. (Aveda, darling, you will be hearing from my lawyers; I’m suing for emotional damages.)
I love these precious, broken characters. They are each endearing in their own ways, (Agony especially). I’m gonna be honest, the crime-solving part of the plot kind of took a back seat in my mind; all I cared about was the romance and all of its angsty sexual tension, lol.
Pick this one up if you’re into the idea of a throuple involving a shape-shifting mass of shadows that can, ahem, accommodate a variety of needs. 😉
