Well this book flowed better than the first but I still don't know any info about Luce. It's kind of annoying. This next book should end this series IMO.

Torment is the follow up book to Fallen.
After reading and enjoying Fallen, I was really looking forward to Torment. However, I was a little let down by reading this book. I don't know what it was, but it felt like something was missing, like something that should have been there just wasn't. I'm still not sure what exactly is missing. It could have been that DANIEL was missing during most of the book! I would have loved to see more of him. (I love Daniel!)
Luce really got on my nerves in part of the book. She was whiney, annoying and totally selfish. Daniel was just doing what he had to do. Why couldn't she see that? Daniel is awesome, as always. Cam is a mystery that I'm still trying to figure out. I enjoyed reading about all the new characters, especially Miles. He's such a sweetie! I also enjoyed all the old characters coming out in the book also.
I'm hoping that the reason this book was so confusing, is because more will be explained in the next books. At least I hope that's the reason!
Happy Reading!

This book was definitely better than book 1, although it was still plagued with Luce's weakness when it comes to Daniel. She was kept in the dark, left alone with her questions; Daniel refusing to give her information or answering with half truths to "protect her". It felt more like a possessive relationship than a healthy one. So again I wondered, is this really true love?

Luce learns a lot more about the angels in this book. It is an enjoyable read, but didn't capture my interest as much as I had hoped for. My full review is on the blog. http://www.booknerdsacrossamerica.com/2012/04/torment-by-lauren-kate.html

It took me forever to read this book and I almost decided not to read the rest of this series. But I'm so happy I decided to listen to this on audiobook. This book was fascinating and great all the way through. I love the direction this series is taking with going into Lucifer and god. Then I loved hearing more about this world and the angels history. How some of them went with Lucifer and turned into demons and others stuck with god. But then it got into the whole concept of good and maybe Lucifer's side isn't that bad after all. In the book it said the victor always tells the story. I found that so deep and true. I've thought about all this before and its along the lines of how I think about Lucifer and that whole situation. Also the past lives thing is so cool. I loved seeing more of how it works. Like she basically looks the same every time but it born into different families. So like her old families are still alive but she was reborn. But she still looks the way she did when she died in her past life. I just found that so interesting. I loved the topics this book got into. I never typically see these things in books. Also I love the characters. I think Luce and her relationship with Daniel is important to look at because it's so imperfect. He's super controlling and she cheated on him. I honestly don't care much about them. They really don't have much to go on besides their past that we don't see enough of. Even Luce agrees. The romance is not why I like this book even though it's kind of centered around it and the drama. I don't really care about Cam or this new guy. But the friendships she has especially with other girls are the best. Like her friends have such unique personalities and they really help each other out. I liked going on the adventures with them like going to her old parents house and looking at the shadows or announcers. It's just fun. I also like being in this school and seeing the dynamic of an angel school. I just like it and hearing about all the powers is cool. So I'm excited to listen to the next book.

This falls somewhere between "okay" and "liked it." Frankly, I don't understand the main characters' relationship. In fact, it kind of reminds me of Evernight, where the guy is not that appealing but she has a close male friend (in this case, Miles) who seems perfect. Luce is a pretty weak character, pining about how beautiful and frustrating Daniel is. She loves him but she knows nothing about him. And people thought Bella and Edward were bad.
Kate also added a lot of mythology here, and I'm torn between thinking it's cool and it's too jumbled. Suddenly the shadows are "Announcers," which can be used to see the future, travel across state lines, and who knows what else. So that's neat. But it's also a little too convenient.
So I was entertained enough to read this is two days and interested enough to read the next in the series, but I'm far from enraptured.

Meh. I just don't buy insta-eternal-love. This is not my genre.

I listened to this book in 2015 in preparation for Rapture which I never read. Still three stars, still super-frustrated with Daniel for keeping her so completely in the dark. I'm glad she started to ask herself why she loves him and exercising some free will.
