«...en cuanto a lo que más importa conocer, es invariablemente superficial. La profundidad se encuentra en los valles donde la buscamos, pero no en las cumbres de la montañas, que es donde la vemos.»

Read English & Baudelaire's French translation. Ask me later when I'm done writing the section of my thesis about this one

My second time reading it. First time in college over 30 years ago. Want impressed then. Not impressed now. Stilted story. Implausible story.

Hugely disappointing. The first 2/3 are a fantastic buildup, meticulously describing the clues and suspects, challenging the reader to put the mystery together themselves before the hero does. Unfortunately, the clues the reader is provided with are not enough to solve the murder, and the solution is totally erroneous, silly and unrelated. It cannot be deduced from the clues given, but Poe taunts the reader with this possibility anyway. The reveal is a great disappointment and ruins the entire story.
