There was a LOT going on in this book. There were several heavy themes that were introduced and I honestly just wasn’t expecting to encounter so many different stories of trauma. I learned a lot from these women though, and was grateful to read the perspectives of older women who are still navigating questions surrounding identity, love and loss.

I felt in powered by these Women. They are still find there way in life at 50+. Loretha is loving life and then her beloved husband die. You she her dive into a deep depression without him. But she find a new life without him with her husband son and reconnect with her daughter. Thanks for heavens for best friends and family to guide her back to life. I am 30 and I hope at her age I have a husband that wonderful and good friend like that. Love it so much I have read it three time now. I just need more.

It’s Not All Downhill From Here – Terry McMillan

This is my first Terry McMillan read and it did not disappoint! The story line deals with some sadness that comes with aging, but shows how you can grow old and still have fun. This book tackles a lot of important issues – health, aging, addiction, mental illness and death. I really liked Loretta but I wish I could have learned more about some of the other characters. Overall, I enjoyed this book. Definitely recommend.

Just finished this read and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed being that this was my first Terry M. novel (like I expected anything less lol). It definitely gave me classic Terry McMillan vibes through adapted movies though (Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back) so I'm not sure if maybe this is just McMillan's "thing". The story is through the eyes of Loretha, a woman in her 60's with a loving husband, kick ass friends, and a thriving business. But like everyone else's life, there are setbacks during the course of life..illness, death, and family that you love but may not like! I like that Terry did not portray life as perfect and gave us real life scenarios that we all go through as we age and she did have a few shockers in the mix. It actually started rather slow for me, but maybe because I'm just in my early 30's (shrug). No spoilers here. Bottom line, if you're looking for classic Terry, this is your read. I'd definitely recommend to my older population of reader friends.
