This was an extremely fast-paced book. I loved the story and the way it develops along the chapters. The image of grief and devastation when Maggie realises what happened to her child was amazingly well portrayed and I was very intrigued and confused about what happened on the day of the accident. Was Elspeth still alive? What was going on? I read the book in a day and I was truly hooked.

I gave it three stars because of the ending as I didn't find it that surprising. In fact, it was a bit out of the blue and it didn't make a lot of sense.

All in all, it was a really good book and I cannot wait to see what the author decides to write next!

Naiss! Mulle meeldis lõpp lahendus, kuigi see jättis kurva tunde sisse.

(Sain selle sünnipäevakingina!)

Day of the Accident is definitely a page-turner. I was eager to read and find out the truth. Some parts were predictable and farfetched but it was still an enjoyable read.

SpoilerSean literally ran away from his problems without even getting Maggie's answers first.... lol. That was ridiculous. Even if it was a just quick reaction, I couldn't truly believe it. It annoyed me because it was just a way to get rid of him. Maggie had to suffer even more... at least wait until she wakes up!

I felt like I needed some answers about Ben because obviously we couldn't believe anything that Barbara said.

Oh, Elspeth :(

I really enjoyed My Sister’s Bones from Nuala Ellwood, so when I found out that she was bringing out another book, I got on and requested it. I’m thrilled I got the opportunity to read it, because I thought it was a brilliant thriller, that really kept me turning the pages.

The book starts with Maggie waking up in hospital. She’s been in a coma for a few months and is understandably very confused. She finds out that her darling daughter Elspeth died in a car accident but she has absolutely no recollection of what happened. She’s determined to speak to her husband, Sean, to find out exactly what happened to her. However, he has been missing since the day of Elspeth’s funeral. Something doesn’t sit right with Maggie and she’s keen to find out what’s been going on. She can’t rely on her memory though…

This book was such a page-turner. It’s one of those highly frustrating books though where I don’t want to say too much in the review. It should be experienced for yourself. That would definitely make more of an impact. I can’t even tell you about the characters as if I did that, then that would ruin the story too. Just know that they are fascinating and some quite horrifying. It was really an unsettling read that got under my skin. It’s a story that will stay with me for a while…

This is the first book I have read by this author and it held me enthralled from beginning to end. Maggie has been in a coma for 10 weeks following a near drowning in thick her daughter died. She can remember nothing of the accident and has no-one to help her as her husband disappeared during her illness. After discharge from hospital she has flashbacks that always seem to fade just as she is reaching for the knowledge she needs. Written partly as Maggie's story and partly in letters from her daughter Ellwood really creates the psychological tension throughout the novel. At the same time she gives nothing away - I had worked out that something was awry with one of the characters but the whole was very neatly wrapped in a blurring of time and place. The solution came as a complete surprise. A very well written narrative and great characters.

Maggie's life as she knew it is over. She wakes up from a coma to find there has been an accident, daughter is dead and her husband has disappeared. She has no memory of the accident or the events leading up to it. Disorientated and grief-stricken she must find out what happened - was it her fault? can her daughter really be dead? where is her husband?

As Maggie begins to remember snip its and starts to investigate her life before the accident we learn that she has a complex past and things aren't as idyllic as they seemed. Adding to the intrigue are the mysterious letters from a young child certain to pull on your heart-strings scattered throughout this novel. It's not Elspeth is it? She is dead isn't she? Maggie is understandably not the most reliable narrator scared, vulnerable and grieving but soon you'll be willing her to work out what happened and take you along for all the twists and turns along the way. This complex psychological thriller will have you turning pages long after you should have turned the lights out.

Thanks to NetGalley & Penguin Books UK for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.

Was instantly drawn in. Read it in a couple days. Maggie is desperate to find out the truth of the accident. Follow Maggie on her heart wrenching journey to remember. I was taken by surprise at the twist. Gripping read, kept me guessing, needed to know what happened.
