This book is so hard to review because it is very well written with intense character development and from a very original angle, but it is also incredibly difficult to read with so many trigger warnings I don’t know where to begin. If I had known what it was about or how it would make me feel, I would not have read it and for that same reason, I cannot recommend it either.

This story is about a mom, Adrienne, who finds out that her fifteen year old son, Noah, molested two little girls. This sends shockwaves through not only their family, but their friendships and community. Moving forward, she struggles between being absolutely horrified and having nothing but unconditional love for her son. 

Wow, this is a heavy one…but such a good story. The grief that Adrienne feels is so real. She’s grieving the son that she’s lost. He’s there physically, but she’s mourning the person she thought he was. I did enjoy the bit of a twist at the end, although I hated the fact that my intuition was right all along.

I was hoping based on reviews I had seen/heard that despite dealing with heavy subject matter, this book would be impactful enough to be worth it. I'm not sure it really was.
I found the mother almost unbearable in her outlook on the world. I think early on it felt preachy about the virtue of being a stay at home mom and having no identity other than being a mother. To each their own, but that is not relatable nor is it an enjoyable perspective to read for me. The early virtue signaling made it difficult for me to really buy into the emotional turmoil the mother faces as the book progresses.
Noah's perspective was interesting and his relationships felt real and engaging to me.
I think the final "Him (Now)" chapter was unnecessary and kind of felt like a cop out to make Noah seem not so bad- like it wasn't his fault. It almost felt like it took away a lot of the agency Noah builds throughout the book in facing the consequences and reality of his actions and feelings.

I would just genuinely warn that if you can't handle an entire book centered around a character that molested young girls, you should stay far away from this book.
