This book should have been a 5 star read, but unfortunately it just fell through in some parts.

I thought the enemies to lovers was well done, but I missed my big love declaration. It wasn’t really clear when they were officially lovers.

The book led up to an interesting cliffhanger, but I felt
the Sewell reveal was done too quickly, as was Tait revealing that he knew about Erik killing his father.
That all felt really rushed. It could have been added into the next book, or this book could have been longer.

Will I read the next one? Absolutely. I just hope it’s a bit better than this guy.

“Hate me all you want, but don’t regret me. Promise me that.”

A beautiful, twisted story of a fated love that could defy years and cross seas.

Wow wow wow! Erik and Livia's story drew me in from the very beginning. I was entranced by the dance that our Songbird and Serpent did throughout the book. Caring, pretending not to care, protecting, being protected, love, hate...LJ Andrews builds an amazing push and pull that keeps you on your toes and wanting more.

All of the characters were written with great care and depth. The anxiety and panic attack rep with Livia was amazing to read, especially as someone that deals with it personally. It was written in such a realistic and relatable way, yet it was never something that classified Livia as weak. I love how Erik was there to support her and remind her of who she is and just how strong she is. And I loved when she showed it! Erik's inner turmoil, and his struggle between holding on to past hate or moving forward with love was so well written. He is the literal definition of morally grey. I totally see how Livia fell for him because I sure did.

The story moved a little slow for me at times, but it was all a build up for those last two chapters. I screamed. I was in a state of shock. I didn't know how to function. So many plot twists and I didn't see any of them coming! Honestly, I think about this story daily, and I can't wait to finish Erik and Livia's story in The Ever Queen.

Definitely read this book if you like:

-Pirates, fae, sirens and witches
-A unique magic system
-Morally grey MMC
-Strong FMC
-Dual POV
-Fated mates
-Touch him/her and ☠️

The world building was so confusing at times. Erik would say they shouldn't share important info with anyone and then share said info with everyone a chapter later? Overall I liked them together, the writing style is just not my favourite.

Hello, love.
I promised I’d come for you.

This was one of my top reads for 2023! The characters immediately captivated me. Her descriptions of the world and how the it interacts with the characters are stunning. I felt like I could see the world fully in my head as I read.

She closed her eyes when the sea breeze kissed her cheeks.
Gods, she looked made for the Ever.

I love the romance in this book. I think its well written and the communication between the two MCs really allows you to feel their connection as is grows. I do wish it had been a little slower paced. It felt a bit quick for them to go from captor and captive to lovers in just over 100 pages.

Hate me all you want, but don’t regret me.
Promise me that.

Erik is a solid morally grey character whos ruthlessness and mercilessness  and to see him struggle with that made him feel more three dimensional and well rounded character. I think his motives were never very strong feeling because they weren't motives he ever truely believed. More like he they are things he should feel and do.

Livia felt a little stuck in her character growth for the first half of the book but over all I enjoyed seeing her deal with her anxiety and panic attacks and felt it was represented really well, at least from my experience.

My serotonin has been boosted immensely between these pages. I cannot recommend this enough, if you want a fast paced romantasy, with vikings & pirates- but make it fae, pick this up immediately.

Top tier!!! Plot twists had me reeling, banter had me squealing, world building & character development was phenomenal.
