I've been struggling through this one and I considered pushing through since it's so short, but I just really don't want to. (Sorry, Mindy). This isn't really something I would've picked up on my own, but Mindy hate read it and the concept sounded super weird so I decided to give it a try, but I was just so bored. I've been reading it for the past 4 days and I have barely gotten past the first 100 pages. It just wasn't something I could get into hate read or not. Oh well. Mindy will spoil everything for me tomorrow and I'll be totally fine with knowing the story like that.

I was expecting this to be like every other dystopian YA book, but I was genuinely surprised by the premise. The way they talk about their “pets”, and normalize this practice of slavery is sickening.

I wasn't crazy about this book. It had a really interesting concept but I didn't really connect with any of the characters.
The idea that genetically modified humans could be pets was what lured me in but I never felt the sparkle I need to to really enjoy this book. While not really annoying I didn't really like Ella as a character and never really connected with her.
I found the Congressman and most of the other males to be creepy in this novel. They seemed to think that the girls were just sex dolls.
I was also surprised that all the girls were only 5ft tall. As a short person I usually seem pretty/beautiful girls being portrayed as quite tall so it was nice to see an MC that was so short.
I was happy at the mention of Canada and the fact that we didn't accept that humans could be kept as pets. I was proud of that.
I'm really curious to see what will happen in the next book
Edit:
I liked this book. The concept of a human pet was really interesting and I liked this better than the last time I read this.
I liked Ella. She was very naive but also strong in her own way. It was like seeing the world through a child's/pet's eyes.
I found the congressman creepy. I kept getting pedophile vibes off of him. I mean Ella was only 16 and the same size as his daughter!
I really liked Ruby. She was a smart and kind girl. I really hope to see more of her in the next book.
I don't know how to feel about Penn. He was a little bit all over the place.
I had mix feelings about the mother and the older daughter. Mostly I didn't really like them much.
I love that Canada was mentioned and that we didn't allow the disgusting law of humans as pets!

One of my favorite near future dystopias. A little cringe at times and the romance is over the top but a good set up to a thrilling series. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys dystopia or fantasy.

Perfected, like most dystopian novels, makes you question human morals and ethics. It makes you wonder if that's something that could actually happen in the future. Americans have turned to a different kind of slavery. But instead of the slaves working in miserable conditions, being beaten and abused, "pets" are spoiled and lavished but not allowed to have their own personality. They must always listen their masters and be at their beck and call.
Ella is one such pet. She's been bred and trained to be perfect, to always put her master's needs before her own, to not have a personality. She's not unhappy in her lifestyle, it's all she's ever known. She believes there's nothing better out there for her. She enjoys her new family. She was purchased to be a companion to a congressman's young daughter, Ruby. They also have a teenage son named Penn and a daughter attending law school, who isn't in the book much. Ella starts to develop a connection with Penn through music, which they are both passionate about.
I loved seeing Penn push Ella outside her comfort zone, to confront the wrongs that have been done to her. I was on the edge of my seat towards the end to know what happened. I really hope there's a sequel because I need to know what happened to everybody!!

"Perfected" is far from perfect but in an awesome way!! What a fantastic tale!! I was hooked from the very start. It's exciting and captivating. A real page turner but with a very serious and quite sinister story.

This book was great! The ending was surprising and I am really excited for the next book now. It was slightly scary honestly, to think that a society could become so twisted...

This was more of a 3.5 star.
Honestly, I forgot I read it so I can't say much about the plot. I wish the story had more depth, but it was entertaining enough. I think if the author had an adult audience in mind, there could have been more substance because the themes weren't explored to the fullest extent, probably because of the YA audience (and remember, this was before SJM decided that YA should be porn). I also wish there hadn't been so much insta-love.
I read it solely because I watched a YouTube video that piqued my interest.
