Fascinating memoir about the realities of modern day teaching in Australia - it really gave me an insight into the breadth of the work that teachers do, particularly the extensive out-of-classroom work.

Should be compulsory reading for Politicians and those who don’t believe that teaching is a challenge. Underfunded, under resourced Teachers aim to do their best for their students every day. This is one Teachers account of her experience in both Public and Private schools, in Australia and overseas. The importance and challenge of leaving the politics out of the classroom, is ever present in this book.

Finally, opinions on teaching from an actual TEACHER. This book is the most honest and heartfelt portrayal of teaching in Australia I have ever read. It came into my life at just the right time and whilst parts of it were disillusioning to the career I've just spent 4 years studying towards, I finished the book feeling motivated and hopeful going into my teaching career, rather than depressed and overwhelmed. Gabbie's authorial voice is so honest and relatable, I connected with her journey so much (apart from the fact we have so much in common), I even found myself laughing out loud at times, and yes, there were a few tears!!! I really appreciated her dressing down of the bureaucracy and politicisation of the education system in Australia and its place in the classroom. Honestly, this book should be required reading for all tertiary education students in Australia. An absolute blessing to read and a stunning debut.
