Although definitely not my usual cup of tea, I thought this was a compelling story with a unique voice. I found the writer's style somewhat awkward at first - perhaps this was more an effect of the translation?  - but as I got more involved in the story and the old woman's narrative, it all seemed to flow more naturally. Some shocking revelations and genuinely emotional moments elevated this above what I expected to be just the gory life story of an assassin.

It has the same vibes as the movies Kill Bok-Soon, The Company Man and so on, but in this book we have a 65 years old grandma/halmeoni as an assassin who is very skillful with a knife. As usual, we come to discover the main character Hornclaw's present life, past life with all its dramas and what made her take this road.
It wasn't something really exceptional when it comes to the plot just the fact that she is an old person who might find difficulties with her body while doing such a job because, most of the time, assassins had retired before getting this old and of course for what she did, her past might come back to bite her on the butt.

It was an interesting read and I would like to see a movie version based on this book. I have another book by Gu Byeong mo that I might read in the future.

A Korean thriller about a woman in her 60s who turns out to be an assassin. It's a little hard to digest but the writing is captivating.
