This was an entertaining read for me. The story revolves around Franchesca Baranski, a strong and sassy Maid of Honor, and Aiden Kilbourn, a successful but commitment-shy businessman. When the groom gets kidnapped, their adventure to rescue him takes unexpected turns. I found Frankie to be a refreshing heroine, unapologetically herself. The book had moments of humor, engaging banter, and a growing attraction between Frankie and Aiden. However, some secondary characters felt one-dimensional and clichéd, which was a drawback. While the story followed some familiar romance tropes, it managed to keep me engaged until the end. Overall, it's an enjoyable romantic escapade with appealing character growth.

This was such a frustrating book to read. I feel like the wedding set up potential for the plot to be much more dramatic and action packed than it was. It’s like we went from this over the top rom-com meets bond movie at the wedding to the most slow and boring story in the last two thirds of the book.
I loved Aiden as a character though but hated Frankie twice as much. She was so judgmental and selfish the whole way through yet was constantly playing the victim. She gave off an “I’m better than you” vibe the whole time because she didn’t come from money like Aiden and Pru and judged them for their lifestyle far more than she was judged for hers.
From a writing perspective it wasn’t bad. I think the story was easy to follow and she gave enough description for me to visualize what was going on. I would be open to giving another Lucy Score book a fair shot in the off chance this specific story was just a lemon. Overall though, I was not a fan.

So, this is a very solid book in a lot of ways. Romance-wise, it’s excellent. The chemistry is super hot and there were some delicious bits of sexual tension, especially early on. The sex scenes were really hot and well-written. This is a high-heat romance and that aspect is done really, really well.
However, I did have some issues with the book. The first thing I want to address is the character of Margeaux, who is openly racist for much of the book, as well as sexually harassing and assaulting Aiden, the MMC, early in the book. For me, the book never really nailed down the fact her actions are actually bad;
I also wasn’t keen on the not-like-other-girls vibes about Frankie, which is a shame because otherwise I really loved her no-nonsense character. In the early chapters there’s a lot of focus on Frankie’s physical build and how skinny all the other girls are, and a mocking sort of tone talking about how concerned the other women are with their appearance. Frankie is shown as being special because she eats pizza and carbs. This all felt a bit outdated.
The main problem with this book, though, is that it actually felt like 2 different books. The first 40-ish % of the book has a madcap romcom vibe, lots of slapstick and silliness. The other 60% is a far more conventional contemporary class difference romance, with far less comedy. Both parts of the book had distinct Lucy Score vibes, depending on what kind of Lucy Score book you’re reading, but they did not mesh well together.
In fact I was ready to DNF at about 42% because I totally lost interest in the book once they left Barbados. It managed to catch my attention again once their relationship got underway and their romance was so delicious I could forgive its slower pace and the fact that the plot was…well, there wasn’t much of a plot till towards the end, really.
It was just massively disjointed. The opening chapters were fun, then it sort of meandered off before becoming a completely different sort of book. The thing is, it didn’t even feel like they were the same characters or the same dynamic, either? The romance in both halves is very solid and the chemistry remains delicious throughout, but the couple in the first 40% is not the same as in the last 60% for me.
So this is an odd rating. There are 2 good books here – especially if you removed some of the content I thought was iffy – but they didn’t work well together for me. Much of it was very solid, and the writing is very good, but the book just didn’t feel cohesive.
