"Throne of the Fallen" is the latest fantasy stand-a-lone from Kerri Maniscalco. Prince of Envy is trying to protect his court, so when he receives a cryptic note, he has no other choice but enter a deadly game. Camilla has gotten on the wrong side of a very influential enemy. She is now being blackmailed, and in an effort to not be involved in a scandal, she is forced to work with Envy. The pair go on a journey through the Underworld and are trying very hard to not fall in love.
I was really excited to pick up this book, but unfortunately, I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The story ended up being way too long, and it took me a LONG time to really get into it. I loved seeing the passion and chemistry between Envy and Camilla, but the rest of the story really dragged for me.
This book does have some great world building, and I think Kerri Maniscalco has really found her place in what to write about. I was also shocked by some of the reveals at the end, which was a fun way to conclude the story.
Although slightly disappointed by this book, I will still read from Kerri Maniscalco in the future.Ā

The twists & turns in this book were incredible too! Some I saw coming, some that took me completely by surprise!Ā
And all the references from Kingdom Of The Wicked! And the jealousy between Envy & Camilla is on point! I canāt get enough of it! I already want to reread it!Ā
In the words of Kerri herself..
"For those who canāt help falling for the villain and love a sinfully wicked fairy tale, this one is for you."

This is a behemoth of a book, but the plot and pacing are great. Pauses to breathe where it needs to, and doesnāt waste time info dumping or describing something if itās not necessary to keep the story going. Iām intrigued by literally every new side character whoās introduced and cameos from the KotW trilogy feel organic and serve to further the story and Envyās character.Ā
I was hooked into the romance from the first barbs exchanged between these two. I laughed out loud more than once. I would fold so fast in a relationship like this, I canāt take the slightest HINT of a tease, but omg what FUN to read these two just ruthlessly go after each other haha. Games on games were played, and I loved it. Envy is nothing if not a mastermind and so it takes someone with just as cunning a brain and more than enough strength of character to match that.Ā
Iād give this book only a 1.5 - 2 on the spice scale, but look I read A LOT of spice so my scale might be skewed š .Ā

I binged this book like there was no tomorrow honestly. It was slow to start but once I was into it I could not put it down. It read very much like a historical romance for the first third and it sort of kept that same feel all the way through. It was a fantastic mix of regency romance, magic and mystery and Kerri has created such a vivid and beautiful fantasy world.
Also, this was sexy. Very sexy. It filled that gap that I felt was missing with the KoTW series (even though I adored that series) and I almost wish Kerri would go back and make that series slightly more āadultā. Their push and pull and the spice payoff was perfect. Envy is such a fun character and Iām so glad we got his story and I also love that it was wrapped up in one book.
Also, I have to make a mention of the whole sinful brothers dynamic because it was fantastic. I cannot wait to see more of them.
I would recommend it if you loved the Kingdom of the Wicked series but wanted a little more of a spicy kick. I would also recommend it if you love a fantasy with lots of intrigue, twists and turns and youāre ready to sit on the edge of your seat right until the last chapter.
Moderate: Violence
