While “evil Appalachian

family does bad things to women in the woods” may not be the most original plot, I had a great time reading Brother nonetheless. The book was brutal, grotesque, sad, and entertaining all the way through. I didn't want to put it down. I saw the twist coming early on, but was still engrossed as I read it play out. I couldn't help but feel sorry for the protagonist. I loved (to hate) the characters and found Ahlborn’s writing incredibly engaging.

I may be in the minority, but I really like a “bad” ending and this definitely delivered in that field as everyone died and no one (including the victims) escaped to their happy ending

. I could see why some would be unsatisfied with the conclusion but I loved it. I think this book will stick with me for a while, and it’s one I’d happily reread. I’m very much hoping this gets made into a movie one day, I just know the soundtrack would be killer.

You either love this book or you hate it to the core, whether it's the predictability or the fact it's one big trigger warning. Personally, I loved it. Well, Love is a strong word. It's closer to say that it stuck with me even after my audiobook ran out. It's gross, messed up, and full of evil, but Ania Ahlborn has a great writing style that jives with me. (Seed was great and way more accessible.) I loved to hate the main antagonist, and simply hated the rest, even when the text gives reason for all the depravity. I JUST wish the ending gave some reprieve, but the story just gets worse and worse.

Brother felt like you combined the movies Wrong Turn and House of a Thousand Corpses. The Morrows were deeply unsettling. This story was disturbing, uncomfortable, and so heart-breaking. As a fan of horror and darker themes, I found myself shocked by how dark this book was several times throughout the story. 

While reading, it felt like the beginning had been a bit slow to start. After finishing to book, I appreciate the time the author took to give us a deeper look into the characters and how they got to the events of the book. I would highly recommend this book!

This book was heartbreaking. I didn’t like the ending, but mostly because it just didn’t wrap up nicely. It was also a little slow until the ending.

This was VERY disturbing. It was well written and some parts were genuinely terrifying. The plot twist was INSANE.
