Not the worst book I've ever read - hello, The DaVinci Code - but it's snuggled up nice and close. In current parlance, it's podiumed.

I was quite surprised I liked The Notebook, but unfortunately, I then read this one, which was like a Mills and Boon/Harlequin reject. Utter rubbish.

So I like a good "airport book" (as I like to call them) every now and again. Something light, that tugs at the heart strings, and can be finished quickly. Under normal circumstances, I would think that any Nicholas Sparks novel would fit the bill. This time, however, I was really disappointed. The character he created for Garrett seemed needy, unsteady, and almost whiney. I could not root for him and Theresa at all, because I felt like she deserved better. I I would also like to mention that there is really no redeeming quality to the book. It just ends with the devastation of Garrett dying (which is rather predictable) and then he ends it. I guess that it really isn't all that bad... I mean, it's sad that he dies at sea before they can mend the relationship, but I didn't think they belonged together. This is one book that I really wanted to be able to say "I cried and I cried and it was awesome," but no such luck. I will keep trying Mr. Sparks' books, but I certainly not have the high hopes for them as I once had.

This is a tear jerker book. I actually liked this one. I wished that Nicholas Sparks didn't have his characters fall in love in just days- it would be more believable if it's weeks or months!!

I did not like how this book ended.

I almost never read this book. I HATED the movie, so I thought I'd hate the book. I bought it on a whim one day when I found a hardback copy for next to nothing. Another day I picked it up on a whim, and I think I read it in about 24 hours. SOOOOOO much better than the movie.

This is a very sentimental story and I'm glad I finally read it. I'm not a mushy book kind of reader so that's why I only gave it 3 stars. I had a hard time getting through the middle of the book but I had to know how it ended. I had a great time talking to my son about how it would end if he or I were writing it. We are a little off keel.

I have never seen the movie and decided to go on a Nicholas Sparks reading frenzy... This is one of my least favorite of his books. I actually do not mind when the main characters do not get their HEA. That is not the part that bothers me.....

Spoilers may follow.... Read at your own risk.

The part that bothers me is how she goes about finding this man, the details she knows about him before meeting him.... is stalkerish and there is nothing you can say that convinces me it is not. This woman would be deemed mentally unstable and if it was a man who found her how she found him. If a man "connected" with her articles and looked up her information, found out where she was from and flew out to meet her before making contact to see if it would be welcomed.. well i'd hope she would get a restraining order.

As far as the MMC, take away the fact that she is a psycho which he does find out, it's absolutely absurd that he is mad that she will not uplift her and her sons life to move states.

Overall, annoying. She should have told him, he shouldn't have expected her to move. She shouldn't have expected him to be able to "move on" from his dead wife. She will always hold a spot in his heart and she is not competing for anyone.

Both of these souls were fighting at every turn, wanting to be in love but finding excuses to make it fail.

Nicholas Sparks has done it again! Made me fall in love, laugh and cry all with one story!
