Andrea goes to her father’s hometown to try to solve a 40-year-old cold case involving the murder of a pregnant teenager. Fast paced and engaging. I liked the MC.

I absolutely loved this book. Completely sucked me in, I couldn't wait for the end. It was different than I thought, so it kept me wondering what the truth was.

I listed to this on audio.
Not my favorite, but this wasn't terrible. I found myself VERY confused in the beginning but then realized this is the second book in the Andrea Oliver world and reading the first one might have helped with my confusion. The middle got good, I loved the past timeline and really connected with that storyline. Be warned that there are a few scenes that were difficult to read/listen to. The ending kind of fell flat for me, I began to not care so much about finding out what happened all those years ago and was just longing for it to be over. The ending didn't feel satisfying and I am pretty sure there will be another book for Andrea Oliver.

Spoiler
Small town vibes in the mystery of Emily Vaughan and her teen pregnancy and subsequent murder.
The real deal was that Nick/Clay... the manipulative psycho from the first book (and Andrea's dad) was a friend of hers. She belonged to a group of kids and all the boys were her assumed rapist (and baby daddy). Nando- the evil bankers son admitted to being the r*pist. His ex-wife (who was obsessively in love with Nando) ended up being her killer as she was jealous.
Side stories- police chief was gay and being blackmailed but searching for Emily's killer. Clay doesn't know he is actually the baby daddy (and no one else does), judge (Emily's mom) and dad were blackmailed by twisted' sicko gym teacher Dean who ran his own cult in the town with Nando.
Can't wait for the next story! Karin is a heck of a writer!

Would I recommend this to my best friend? If that BFF likes thrillers, absolutely.
Can we have a side discussion that Mike is a little creepy? Telling people they are engaged - idk being in love with someone you're responsible for in Witness Protection?
