Oh my...

The tears. The heartache. The broken souls. This book will have you in tears within the first few pages. This book shows exactly how tragic and beautiful life can be.

The beginning of this book was so hard to read. I had to put it down a few times because it was so dark and twisted. This is probably the darkest romance book I have ever read.

One thing that I didn’t really like was the Mandy portrayal. I know she was describe as vain but the fact that Dean had to point it out in someway just didn’t sit right with me.

This was disturbing, yet juicy, and there was no way I wasn't finishing this book. I don't even want to know what it says about my psyche that I would willingly read more books in this sub-genre... so let's leave that alone.

I guess I should say to check the trigger warnings if you so dare. The most problematic part about all of this, personally, was that the taboo plot point was not that "WTF" to me, but I understand that it should feel that way. So... as I said, let's leave my own neurosis out of it.

"Every love story is worth writing, no matter how messy it might be..."

"We are bound, chained, tied... to our trauma, and to each other."

"It's still beating.
You're still okay.
And I still love you."

I think this is one of those books I’m going to be thinking about forever. BUT PLEASE CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE READING!!

It follows Cora and Dean during their journey of healing after dealing with some of the most traumatic situations anyone could go through.

Dean and Cora have been enemies for 15 years, and during those years Dean has been dating Cora’s sister Mandy. But when the pair gets kidnapped one night after a night out at a local bar, they’re forced to deal with their hatred for one another very abruptly. While being forced to go through the unthinkable, the two have to figure out how to escape their captor and stay alive. But then once they do get free, they have to deal with the aftermath and all the emotions it brings up.

I loved Dean and Cora’s story. They went through such unimaginable things but cling to each other like a lifeline and their love that bloomed from that trauma ended up being truly beautiful. At first I was hesitant because dating your sister’s ex (well not even ex honestly) is not really my favorite trope but I loved how this worked out. I do wish I got more of their relationship instead of just jumping right to the epilogue , and honestly just a bit more overall because there were so many time jumps but I’m so happy they got their happy ending! They are a book couple I’m going to be thinking about for a very long time!

This was so well written. All the anger, sadness and the healing process was very realistic. Some parts were definitely hard to read and made me cry. So please look at the trigger warnings!!
