Really easy, brief read. I'll definitely be looking into literary analyses of tis book to get some context for the time and place (particularly the language used to describe the indigenous people of the setting) and on the theme of religion. As an ex-true crime fanatic, I really liked the last fifty pages. I almost felt they should be labeled Acts rather than as Parts, and then remembered Camus was also a playwright, adding another layer to how I interpreted the story. It also reminded me a little of Plath (or vice versa) with the attention to the mundane and a deeply introverted voice.

Almost wish it was longer so I could sit with it more but it’s just going to rattle around in my brain now, feeling unnerved and adrift. I almost wonder if this is the blueprint for stories like this since it is recognizable in lots of modern work. Gotta do my research.
