A journalist with a secret past and a gentleman teamed up to investigate a shady dude. She's the classic AQ heroine - quirky, resourceful with a quick wit, while he's the smart, broody alpha whom she often drives to exasperation. Theirs is a fun romance, with mad escapades, solid chemistry, really entertaining and witty banter (her thinking he's a professional thief cracked me up), and some good bouts of passion. And he's very supportive and protective when she revealed her past. The mystery is engaging and the supporting cast is fun. AQ's books are my comfort reads, and I definitely enjoyed this one.

Louisa is a wonderful heroine and Quick introduced a new (for her) story component by giving her leading lady the secret past of a near rape that ended in the horrible man's murder and causes her to fake her suicide and create a new identity. Anthony was a great hero and his family was hysterical - they offered many LOL moments. The murder subplot was engaging; though somewhat convoluted, it had nice twists and turns that provide for a good mystery, even if the reader often realizes the truth before the story unveils it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this!!

I loved the quick banter and easy partnership that Anthony & Louisa had from the start. They had really great chemistry but there was a lack of…relationship development between them. I wish there had been more time spent getting to know each other— in some aspects I feel like I didn’t get to know Anthony well.

The pace was super quick and the mystery interesting enough, I found myself unable to stop reading when I picked this up. ☺️

A fairly typical Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz plot, but still very enjoyable. Quick/Krentz doesn't develop the romances in her books quite as much as I'd prefer, but she writes good characters and decent mysteries. The mystery in this book was well done and kept me guessing. Picking up a book by Krentz under any pen name is guaranteed to be an enjoyable read for me. (Mar.'11)

*Re-reading Sept 2011 for book club.

I enjoyed this book even as a re-read. There were some great parts that made me laugh at times. The story follows Joanna who is forced to change her name to Louisa and live as a journalist after killing a Lord in self-defence. Louisa encounters Anthony when she is investigating the truth about someone for an article. They join forces to work out the truth and find themselves in trouble. I enjoyed reading their story as they fell in love and investigated. Definitely a book I would read again and recommend. Xxx

I loved this book and the characters, especially Louisa and Anthony. There were some great parts that made me laugh at times. I did find the murder parts a bit predictable but it did not effect my enjoyment. There wasn't really anything "wrong" with this book. The characters were likable enough and solving the mystery was kind of fun. However, I felt like there just wasn't that extra spark. It was definitely one of those books that you just trudge through cause it's not horrible to read and it's something to do.

This is the 24th book by Amanda Quick (Jayne Ann Krentz) and subsequently the 24th that I've read. If you like one of her books, you will probably like them all. They all (if memory serves) have a darkly handsome and worldly hero and a slightly irreverent heroine, who are nearly always bespectacled. The chemistry between the two leads is always politely passionate. They get into just enough peril to make for a slightly mysterious plot, and they consistently have surprising (to the heroine) sexual chemistry. The dialogue is ceaselessly clever, catchy and, yes, polite. In this story Anthony Stalbridge and Louisa Bryce get into just the right amount of danger to make for that fairytale Quick finish
