Ahh, a great ending, will it be the last in the series? Well I hope not, it was wonderful and GREAT and so many other words, lol!! I look forward to more by this author though!!

What is it about Mary Calmes's bookst that made them so entertaining????? I would never say her plots to be mind-boggling but they're always interesting enough with their surprising twists that they manage to keep me going. The part about Jory making investigation especially makes me so irrationally happy even though I know logically it's a stupid move on Jory's part. STILL. I JUST LIKE IT A LOT.

And I love how character-driven this whole series is :( It's just so good.

Terrible, there's just no other word for it. I liked this series well enough at the beginning and I adore Mary Calmes' Change of Heart series, but this is just plain ridiculous.

Jory meets new people. Boom. Everybody loves Jory. Boom. Problem solved. This is the pattern for the whole series, but in this book it gets to the point where it's annoying. There's no character development at all, except maybe that Sam becomes even less likable and I ended up unsure who of the two main characters I disliked more.

Add the non-existence of commas and this book is a total no-go for me. I couldn't even bring myself to finish it.

Jory is not charming at all in this book, just incredibly annoying. Also the ‘twist’???

Another moment of honesty. I hated this book the first time I read it. I thought Jory was way too impulsive, and I couldn't see why Sam would put up with all that crap. I wanted to shake Jory for what I saw then was his stupidity.

But, after all the "He Said, He Said" features in the author's newsletters, I have come to appreciate the goodness of Jory's heart. That helped me understand and take a different perspective on Jory's behavior in this book.

The mystery kept me at the edge of my seat, even knowing what was going to happen, because of the twists and turns. But, I think my favorite parts were Jory's ingenuity in the face of figuring out the case and figuring out how to accomplish things with difficult odds.
Spoiler The whole getting handcuffs cut off in a sex toys store was my favorite. Ingenious!

I can't wait to see where the rest of the series goes from here.

I didn't get Jory's infatuation with Sam until this book. They're both dumb and deserve each other.

Wow, this one was so different from all the previous books. I almost felt like I was reading an entirely different series, even though it did have a lot of familiarities that made me enjoy it even more.

The biggest change from the rest was that this book actually seemed to have a real plot. It had an on-going mystery, and was plenty action-packed while also pretty ridiculous. It wasn’t anything serious, and you do have to suspend a certain amount of disbelief, but I genuinely had lots of fun seeing Jory turn into some sort of super detective or secret spy. He did all this crazy stuff and I just found it so enjoyable. I also found it oddly funny. Like, seriously, I do not know if this was meant as a comedy, but I laughed out loud multiple times.

Jory cracked me up and some of his actions just made me giggle. I truly love this character so much: I don’t know what it is about him, but I think he’s hilarious and just so… great. He always does exactly what he wants, and is pretty iconic about it, but he still has his heart in the right place, and often tries to help other people. His mindset isn’t selfish in any way, but he’s not a doormat either. He does what’s best for him and he does so in a way I find extremely entertaining.

“I love you, Jory. I love your good heart and your kindness and the way you bring out the very best in everyone you meet. I need you, because without you I’m empty and mean.”

Also, this might come as a major surprise, most of all to me, but Sam did not annoy me in this book. It seemed like he genuinely got himself together now: he was loving, caring, protective, possessive, obsessive, adoring, and, best of all, he. did. not. fuck. up. once. This man finally decided to fight for Jory the whole way through, and he constantly stood by him. Even while Jory was running around, doing all this hilariously insane shit, Sam loved him through all of it. It seems like he truly realised that Jory was it for him, and that he was never going to let him slip through his fingers. It’s how it should have been all along, but I’m not complaining about Sam finally getting there now.

“Just coming home, walking in our bedroom and you’re sleeping all warm and safe in our bed… I just… I can’t breathe. My home is a sanctuary now, and I won’t give that up because you’re pissed at me. I don’t love anything or anyone as much as you. You’re my whole life.”

All in all, I enjoyed this so much. Jory is a character I truly adore, and I had so much fun with this particular story. The plot genuinely managed to capture my interest and kept me invested throughout. I don’t really have many complaints about anything here.

That was AWESOME.

Usually characters like Jory aren't my thing. They're lovable and all, hey're fun, but I'm more of a grumpy fan than a sunshine one. I like 'em big and broody, not small and fragile. But Jory? Jory amused the hell out of me.

I loved the plot in this book, especially the way it's been set up since book one without you even noticing.

Highly recommend these books. And now, Imma reread Marshals and see Sam in a whole different light.
