While the plot does move forward a bit, it didn't reveal as much as I thought it would. Maybe I just don't have the backstory of Calamity to understand what's happening fully. Still loved the characters, but I didn't like this volume as much as the first. There is some bad shit going on though that the kids don't understand yet.

Not sure this was an improvement on Vol. 1, but had fun parts with Maps and deeper parts with Olive. Liked the Robin cameos. Looked great like the first collection.

When I read the first volume of Gotham Academy, I absolutely loved it. That was one of the rare times where the artwork in a comic book had just as much to do with my loving it as the writing--possibly more so in that case. The artwork remains amazing in this second volume of the series. The writing wasn't as strong this time around, but that has more to do with the story feeling less self-contained in this volume. You can tell the series is playing a longer game this time, so things don't tie up as neatly in this second volume. I still plan to get volume three in the series. I just hope more of the story gets resolved this time around. I loved that Tim Drake makes an appearance as Red Robin, because he's my favorite character in the "Bat family," but it's such a brief appearance. I wish Tim could have contributed more to that issue.

I really like this series, but it doesn't feel super cohesive and a lot of Batman villains just pop up at random.

I went into Calamity warily, because I didn't exactly love the first Gotham Academy TPB, but I liked this one a lot more. The annoying "what's up with Olive" mystery is more or less resolved, and this volume is Maps-heavy, which is a win in my book. I'd actually continue reading the series on the strength of this volume, despite reluctantly picking it up in the first place.

After loving the first volume so much this was a little disappointing. I can't really put my finger on why, it just seemed to feel a bit thinner, focusing more on events at the expense of the charm and character that made the first volume so special. It was still plenty entertaining, but much less memorable, and whilst I will probably continue reading at some point, I won't be in such a hurry to pick up the next volume.

Solid teen graphic novel series. Just enough superhero shenanigans to keep the Batman fans happy(ish), plenty of Scooby-Dooesque mischief, and a continuous level of teen identity angst. If you like teen mysteries, batman, or prep-school friendship gangs this might be the series for you.

I enjoy the spooky, gothic spin of this comic series, and it has lots of secrets still left to be revealed that I am excited about. The characters are fun and likeable, although I wish this volume had more Olive in it. I love the art, which was once again awesome. My one main complaint is the storyline could be very confusing at times, especially with Maps narrating as she talks strangely. The first volume had a better arc, and there are pieces of that story still left unexplained and unmentioned in this book. All in all, a fun comic for young adults/children that is very enjoyable.
