Really enjoyed this book. So easy to read, funny and fast paced which made it very entertaining. I think it also represented travelling well, and although all the characters had their annoying habits and flaws; it was easy to see all of their points of view. I did find Daves endless obsession with sex a bit tedious and it kinda made me feel sad that he focussed so much on womens bodies rather than trying to get to know them - maybe this is a realistic representation of a 19 year old boy but it still made me a bit uncomfortable. I did like that all the characters were flawed as it made them seem a bit more realistic, however there were parts where the dialogue seemed over dramatic and unlikely to be things people would actually say to one another. Overall a very engaging book that was refreshingly lighthearted.

Hated the characters, but nice to get a glimpse of the "real Indian Travel'.

I enjoyed this book and I didn't think I would after the first chapter, I feel like it does describe how some travellers are and what people think and would love to say to travellers. I didn't think I would feel sorry for dave and like him but that changes by the end of the story and I started to hate liz by the end, I would recommend this book if you want an easy read which doesn't require much thought

“The real point would have to be about how going to India isn’t an act of rebellion these days, it’s actually an act of conformity for ambitious middle-class kids who want to put something on their CV that shows a bit of initiative.”

That quote says it all.

Totally not worth it. A racist, sexist white man who spends the entirety of the book complaining about anything that isn't Western civilisation. Only thing that made it bearable was the ability to read it in less than 2 sittings. The chauvinistic arsehole that Holden Caulfield (catcher in the rye) wishes he was.

I don’t like books about India. Like how poor people are or how “spiritual” or rather fake spiritual they are or how everyone asks for money or about the hippie crowd or the politically aggressive crowd or how they are travelling to “find” themselves or even how they are trying save by thinking India is all about slums and it goes on. There is so much more to talk or do In India but every book I read was pretty much about what I mentioned.

I wouldn’t say this book was different but I think it was written some time back and I can how the writer described India is similar but not so much. I like this because it was not about “Indians” but about the “travellers”. The hippy kind, the “we know better” kind, the “dammit this country is shit” kind. It’s from a different perspective and I liked it. I finished in few hours so it’s a very easy read. It’s not book I would go in search for but if you accidentally find it, it’s a interesting read.
