So. Much. Betrayal.

This book hooked me in so much that I finished it in one sitting.
Its twists and turns kept me entertained, even though I couldn't help but suffer as poor Alyce dealt with an endless streak of setbacks and betrayals.
If you thought she was going through hard times in Malice, Misrule might make you rethink that.

My gut tells me that I probably liked Malice a little more than Misrule, mostly because of the place Walter had left Alyce at and how full of promise it was.
In Misrule, the ending was bittersweet and much more believable than a fairytale type of ending.
And while appreciated that, it didn't quite feel as it did the protagonist justice.

Despite the emotional rollercoaster, Misrule turned out to be a satisfying read and an apt conclusion to the duology.

This book was very slow to start as Alyce had become extremely unlikable in my opinion but as the book hit the 30% mark everything started to pick up and fall into place. The amount of character growth in this book was amazing and it wrapped up this duology perfectly. I could not have asked for a better ending!

This book was so close to being perfect. It was perfect until about 80% in. And I hate that I didn't hate it more. Despite the downfall, I still really loved it.

SpoilerIt had the perfect build up, the perfect opportunity to make Aurora a villain. The betrayal, everything was perfectly set up for Aurora to become a villain with Derek. And then for Alyce to become a badass and fall in love with Regan. The whole thing where she always chose Aurora felt more annoying than romantic. And I love a good "villain gets the girl" trope but somehow this one just annoyed me. And yet, even though I was majorly disappointed that she ended up choosing the most toxic relationship of all, I didn't hate the ending. Like I'm happy with how it got handled. I'm still mad though so I can't give it the last .5 stars. Even with some of the plot twists like Rose going absolutely insane, that was a good plot twist.
