I think Gray did a good job of not only capturing what Leia would sound like as the character Carrie Fisher created, but also as an immature 16 year old. Leia is worried about her parents throughout the entirety of the book, and is concerned that they aren't paying attention to her as much as they used to. I don't read a lot of YA for this reason, because the characters start to feel a little annoying. Not that adult characters can't be as well, but it's hard to remember that the person going through these events isn't a fully formed being. I loved the references and characters mentioned of the Star Wars universe, it ties a lot together and I feel like I have a deeper understanding of Leia and the formation of the war between the Rebellion and the Empire. That being said, the book is just a tiny bit boring. When we learn Leia has to face these coming of age trials at the beginning of the book, I thought I was in for an action packed adventure full of angst and hardship. But in reality it's Leia going from place to place trying to learn about the secrets her parents are keeping from her. We get a little action here and there, but mostly it's a lot of Leia's inner dialogue and government internship. I did however enjoy this book and was glad to gain a better understanding of the world pre-war. Also, the book takes place on Alderaan mostly and all I could think while reading this book was, "None of this matters they're all going to be blown up in a few years." Would recommend for fans of Leia.

Great read. Well written.

Stories like these only enrich the characters that we have grown to love over the years in the star wars universe.

Book was good. Definitely appealed more to teenage girls then adults , but I still enjoyed it. Enjoy Leia's coming of age and a whole new side of her we have never seen before!

Great insight into Leila’s character and background from before we meet her in a new hope. Loved seeing the moments where Anakin and Padme shown through in her and loved her interactions with her parents.

Best Expanded Universe book I’ve read so far. It has probably over taken Lost Stars and Bloodline as my favourites (both also written by Gray... so really, she should just write all of the SW books in the future)!

I adored every page of this book, it was so rich. Leia as a teenager was perfect and believable. Her parents were perfect and it was so rewarding to learn more about her Mum.

Alderaan. Let’s talk about how well Gray makes me mourn for that planet now. Like in A New Hope no one really cares, the only emotion comes from Leia, I you never really get a sense of the loss that comes from losing t eh lament because the action just continues. Gray builds the world of Alderaan through Leia’s eyes, you see how beautiful, how peaceful and how happy the people are. Knowing the whole world is destroyed is heartbreaking, and the constant reference of the fear of this destruction makes it very the more crushing.

What enhanced my experience of this book further was watching season 3/4 of Rebels along side it. I’m sure not many have had this experience. But damn it’s worth it. I feel so immersed in the world, more so than I have ever been.

An amazing book. Definitely a good one to start on if you haven’t read any of the new EU stuff yet!!

This is the Princess Leia you've wanted to know!

Claudia Gray does a fantastic job in giving us the Leia who is on the cusp of young girl and a woman.

We find out more about the Royal House of Alderaan and how their Crown Royals obtain their place in line for succession to the throne. Gray introduces us to Leia's first love and to a young Amilyn Holdo.

Bail Organa felt true and honest to what we've seen in the movies and The Clone Wars & Rebels shows as well. Queen Breha was more than I could have hoped for. Leia certainly takes a lot of her qualities into herself as well as those of Bail Organa...and we get the feisty and headstrong Princess that we first met back in 1977 in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Great Star Wars book! Claudia Gray captures teen Leia very well. I like how it shows how the Rebellion was starting with Leia's parents and how it will lead to A New Hope.
