This book is meant for a target audience, and that target audience is decidedly not me.

Story of loyalty and academic competition. Led chiefly by a sense of uncertainty and deceit. Felt very personal, and the touches of mystery through academic pursuit mirrored the mysteries in the narrative itself. Ending was striking and unexpected and left me feeling very uncertain as to how I felt about both main characters and their ends.

I think I hated this book. But it was engaging and I finished quickly. Not the fun kind of dark academia, though perhaps it’s just too close to home for me. It’s insightful, in its way, though also a blunt instrument, and I’m glad to be done with it. Truly do not read this if you’re ABD or on the job market…

I think I’m totally turned off from the dark academia theme. So tired.
