This was probably my favorite book in the series so far. Rio and Dylan's story reminded me of a modern day Beauty and the Beast. He's flawed and doesn't feel he's worthy. She becomes the captive that falls for her capter. I loved their banter and couldn't get enough of their story.

I didn't know if I would enjoy this installment of the Midnight Breed series as much as the first 3, but it turns out to be one of my favorites. I thought the portrayal of Rio was excellently written, and I couldn't help but like Dylan. She seemed real, and for the most part her reactions to what was happening seemed believable. She was determined without being totally fearless, and she wasn't mean or vindictive. (I'm really tired of snarky heroines, almost as much as I'm tired of verbally abusive heroes.)
I also thought the plot was well done, even if not as much happened int his book as in some others. While not a blatant cliff-hanger, the story is set to be very exciting in future books.

This series just keeps drawing me in. This book was about Rio, a member of the Order who has been injured and carries a lot of scars, both physically and emotionally and his struggle to find the will to go on. I love Rio. He wasn't that big of a character in the first three books but I enjoyed hearing his story. I can't wait to read more.

This was one of the best so far!! The whole plot revolving around saving Rio from killing himself. She had divine intervention to steer her right to him. It makes you feel that she's meant to save him, but they saved each other and gained a nuch better reason to live...each other. Adrian has completely wrapped me up in this world. I sit and wonder which single warrior will be bitten by love next. A superb read! Great job.

An ancient evil has been released, and Rio is in the process of destroying the chamber and the evidence, and also to bury himself in the rubble. Journalist, Dylan Alexander, is traveling in Europe with friends, and working on a story. Dylan has psychic abilities that are almost a curse, but this ability leads her to a hidden tomb with ancient writing and a sense of evil that permeates the room. She stumbles across a dangerous creature, a man that is scarred and full of pain and a being she can't resist no matter the danger. Rio and Dylan are drawn together, by danger and passion. Dylan is the key to finding the answers in the search for this ancient evil, but also in the disappearance of breeds. But there is an enemy, an enemy that is hunting for Dylan and only Rio will be strong enough to protect her.
Rio is a Breed Warrior, and to many of their kind he isn't looked upon in favor. Rio is the most loyal and fierce of them all. Rio was mated, but his mate Eve betrayed him and his warrior brethren and Rio is bitter and angry and full of hatred. Rio is both scarred physically and emotionally. He hasn't had it easy, and the pain is almost overwhelming for Rio. He has demons that he has to face. Rio has the who "tortured hero" down pat. Rio has really been struggling and we have seen this in previous books. Its been heartbreaking to see his character and the way he struggles with the pain and grief. Rio is a character that you just reach towards, he has a past that haunts him even before Eve. He is just about ready to give up on living until he meets our heroine who is like a breath of fresh air for him. We see a slow change in Rio, see him have hope and seeing his character heal. I admired Rio for his strength of character, his loyalty and devotion to doing the right thing no matter how much it hurts.
Dylan Alexander has a certain psychic ability. She can see ghosts of young women. Dylan has seen this since she was a little girl. They speak to her, but she can't communicate anything with them. Her father left them when she was young, and her mother is the only one in her family that has stayed with her, accepted her, and loved her unconditionally. Dylan is a journalist, but she was betrayed by a source and lost her job. Her current work isn't exactly what she has dreamed of writing about aliens and myths, but when she discovers a hidden tomb she knows she has something legit and really could make her career. Dylan was a different heroine that I was expecting. She is driven, but also compassionate and has such an open heart. I really connected with her character because she has such a down to earth personality that you instantly are drawn to. She is a fighter too and will do anything for her mother.
Midnight Rising was such a wonderful story and ever since we see what Eve did to Rio in the previous books, I have been waiting for his story. Probably because Rio at first is such a carefree and fun loving warrior. Probably out of all of them, he is more lighthearted and fun. But then we see such a horrid change, where he is full of pain and hate. I have been so excited to see him get a happy ending and Dylan was everything and more that Rio needs. Midnight Rising follows a few months after Midnight Awakening ends. Rio has fallen off the map from his brethren, keeping secrets and keeping to himself. We also see a new and more dangerous evil that is in the works. And what is revealed in this book, was quite a shock and a new twist I was expecting. There is a thread left at the end of Midnight Rising that leaves us hanging just a bit but has a more "Happy For Now" type theme. Which I am okay with, because the ending feels more between a Happy For Now and a Happy Ever After type ending. Mostly due to the danger and the evil that is trying to undermine all the good these Warriors have been trying to accomplish. The actual romance between Rio and Dylan was so sweet at times, but quite a battle in other ways as well. At first their relationship is strained, but they have a connection with each other and that connection slowly builds in strength and in healing. Both Rio and Dylan help each other emotionally.
Their physical relationship is quite intense and provocative and I loved seeing these two spark.
What I truly enjoyed most was seeing Rio and Dylan work through the hurdles in their relationship. Now the side characters were a blast and my favorite was Niko. Niko is best friends with Rio, and we see a strain in their friendship, but Niko never loses faith in his faith and defends him quite passionately in one particular scene that probably won me over for Niko instantly. There is such depth of emotion in Midnight Rising, and I can't wait for more.
I like the green gold and teal colors, with the scene of the city and the river. Has a more exotic feel to it.

Nice little quandary to start of the story: Dylan (the girl, yes I know) is a reporter who takes pics of Rio and a super secret cave. Rio can't have those pics come out and now since Rio messed up he has to keep Dylan with him when all he wants to do is off himself (in the previous books he is betrayed by his breedmate and scared horribly from an explosion).
Their relationship happens/progressing at warp speed, not sure why they are in "luv".
This story is just kind of more of the same. The tone and set-up felt the same, the characters just have different names. Rio and Dylan didn't make a lasting impression on me or anything.
Once again the author finishes strong with an ending that was fast paced and exciting. Liking the continuation storyline of the Ancient (original gansta', sorry, Vampire) being alive and breeding new Gen Ones.

Nebenher werden immer Rätsel gelöst und der Orden sieht sich eine Bedrohung ausgesetzt, welche nicht nur den Stamm, sondern auch die Menschheit gefährden könnte.

Doch es war kein Zufall, sondern Dylans übersinnliche Gabe, welche sich teils als Fluch empfindet, die sie zu diesem verborgenen Grab geführt hat. Nachdem sie die Grabkammer betreten hat, entdeckt sie uralte, ihr unbekannte, Schriftzeichen. Ein Gefühl des Bösen, das den Raum durchdringt, überkommt sie. Sie stolpert über eine gefährliche Kreatur, einen Mann, dessen Gesicht mit Narben bedeckt ist und Augen voller Schmerz.

Er ist sowohl körperlich als auch emotional gezeichnet. Seine Dämonen sind fast greifbar, doch früher oder später muss er sich ihnen stellen. In vorhergehenden Büchern konnten die ich mitverfolgen, wie sehr Rio um sein Leben gekämpft hat und es war teils herzzerreißend, wie dieser Charakter immer wieder vor körperlichem und emotionalem Schmerz fast auseinanderbricht. Als er kurz davor steht, sein Leben zu beenden, rennt ihm unsere Heldin Dylan in die Arme. Eine langsame Veränderung setzt in Rio ein und ich konnte mitverfolgen, wie er wieder Hoffnung schöpft und sein Charakter beginnt zu heilen. Ich komme nicht um hin, Rio zu bewundern. Lara Adrian hat ihm eine unglaublich realistische Charakterstärke zuteil kommen lassen, die sich auf eine Loyalität und Hingabe, das Richtige zu tun, zuspitzt.
Wie alle Stammesgefährtinnen hat, auch Dylan Alexander hat eine ganz besondere Gabe – sie sieht die Geister junger Frauen und hört auch ihre Stimmen. Doch die Kommunikation ist eine Einbahnstraße. Dylan arbeitet für ein reißerisches Klatschblatt als Journalistin und muss über Aliens und andere mysteriöse Vorgänge schreiben. Als sie während ihre Europaurlaubs ein verstecktes Grab entdeckt, weiß sie, dass sie etwas Echtes hat und wirklich Karriere machen könnte. Dylan war eine andere Heldin, als ich erwartet hatte, und ich bin auch bis zum Ende nicht so wirklich mit ihr warm geworden. Sie ist zwar mitfühlend und hat ein so offenes Herz, doch das ist etwas, was ich nicht richtig beschreiben kann. Dieses Etwas lässt mich einfach nicht an sie herankommen. Trotz dieser “Abneigung” ihr gegenüber muss ich ihr aber ihre bodenständige Persönlichkeit honorieren
Der Plot
Gebieterin der Dunkelheit war so eine gute pragmatische Geschichte. Nachdem ich im ersten Band der Reihe miterleben musste, welchem Verrat Rio erlegen ist, habe ich mit Spannung auf seine Geschichte gewartet. Ich lernte Rio als unbeschwerten und lebenslustigen Stammesvampir kennen, der dann den wohl schwersten Kampf seines Lebens führen muss – eine Rückkehr ins Leben. Auch wenn ich mit Dylan nicht warm wurde, war sie doch genau die Person, die Rio benötigte. Es hat mich wahnsinnig gefreut, dass all sein Schmerz und Hass, von Liebe und einem Happy End abgelöst wurde.
Gebieterin der Dunkelheit spielt ein paar Monate nach dem Ende von Geschöpf der Finsternis. Für seine Waffenbrüder ist Rio ist wie von der Erde verschluckt, denn er ringt wochenlang mit seinem Plan, sich zusammen mit den Geheimnissen um den Ältesten, in der Grabkammer für immer einzuschließen.
Das Geheimnis um den lebenden Ältesten und sein Verschwinden gibt dem Buch die nötige Spannung und eine Wendung, die für mich aber nur teils überraschend war.
Am Ende des Buches erwartete mich trotz eine Happy End zwischen den Hauptcharakteren, ein Cliffhanger, der mich dazu animiert, schnell zum nächsten Band zu greifen. Freunde der Erotik-Romanze kommen auch in Gebieterin der Dunkelheit voll auf ihre Kosten. Die anfängliche Anspannung zwischen den beiden, welche der Entführung Dylans durch rio zu verschulden sit, legt sich im Laufe des Buches und es ist schnell zu erkennen, dass sich beide Charakter emotional und auch körperlich gegenseitig brauchen.
Das einzige Manko, welches auch Schuld an nur drei Sternen ist, dass Dylan nicht realistischer als Opfer einer Entführung dargestellt wird. Unabhängig von der Vampirgabe der Trance ist mir Dylan sehr schnell in eine Art Stockholmsyndrom verfallen.

Ich lernte Rio als unbeschwerten und lebenslustigen Stammesvampir kennen, der dann den wohl schwersten Kampf seines Lebens führen muss – eine Rückkehr ins Leben. Auch wenn ich mit Dylan nicht warm wurde, war sie doch genau die Person, die Rio benötigte. Es hat mich wahnsinnig gefreut, dass all sein Schmerz und Hass, von Liebe und einem Happy End abgelöst wurde.
Gebieterin der Dunkelheit spielt ein paar Monate nach dem Ende von Geschöpf der Finsternis. Für seine Waffenbrüder ist Rio ist wie von der Erde verschluckt, denn er ringt wochenlang mit seinem Plan, sich zusammen mit den Geheimnissen um den Ältesten, in der Grabkammer für immer einzuschließen.
Das Geheimnis um den lebenden Ältesten und sein Verschwinden gibt dem Buch die nötige Spannung und eine Wendung, die für mich aber nur teils überraschend war.
Am Ende des Buches erwartete mich trotz eine Happy End zwischen den Hauptcharakteren, ein Cliffhanger, der mich dazu animiert, schnell zum nächsten Band zu greifen. Freunde der Erotik-Romanze kommen auch in Gebieterin der Dunkelheit voll auf ihre Kosten. Die anfängliche Anspannung zwischen den beiden, welche der Entführung Dylans durch rio zu verschulden sit, legt sich im Laufe des Buches und es ist schnell zu erkennen, dass sich beide Charakter emotional und auch körperlich gegenseitig brauchen.
Das einzige Manko, welches auch Schuld an nur drei Sternen ist, dass Dylan nicht realistischer als Opfer einer Entführung dargestellt wird. Unabhängig von der Vampirgabe der Trance ist mir Dylan sehr schnell in eine Art Stockholmsyndrom verfallen.

Gebieterin der Dunkelheit ist eine leidenschaftliche Romanze, die tief in dunklere Emotionen eindringt und zeigt, auf welch wundersame Weise Liebe heilen kann. Das Buch enthält Spannung, Action, Begierde und jede Menge Emotionen.
