The plot was interesting but none of the characters were likeable, there was never anyone that I felt like rooting for and that kept me from really enjoying the book. However, I didn't dislike the characters enough to stop me from picking up the next book to see what happens next whenever it comes out.

I actually really enjoyed this book so it's sad that a lot of people don't! I definitely understand how this book isn't suited for everyone, but I thought it was fun and pretty well paced. I found the characters enjoyable and the story really interesting. I liked the plot twists that were involved and enjoyed understanding why each part was named.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who likes dark academia with an interesting magical system and morally grey characters!

This book started off super strong for me; I was captivated by the writing style and the way the characters were introduced. But once they were all in a room together, the pacing slowed incredibly. It just felt like there was so much talking, and that’s all there was until the last 2-3 chapters when something interesting actually unfolded. I loved that part, but I wouldn’t want to reread the entire middle of this again to get to that; it was just too slow for me. Plus, none of the characters really stood out.

An offer you can't refuse
Manipulation game
All the other characters should be asking "Where's Libby?"

There are some interesting ideas, however it didn't really hit for me. I wasn't really a fan of any of the characters. The powers were confusing too. I know the six were the best of the best magically, but how their powers manifested vs how they were nominally described at the start didn't seem to match up. There was some redemption for the twist at the end that cast things in a new light, but I'm not sure the overall plot worked. Your mileage may vary on this one.
