Everything about this was amazing. While reading the first book, I always wondered what was going on with Hades when he wasn’t in a scene or when he was late and what was going on in his head. And this book solved all of that. I loved being able to see his side of things and how his thoughts in a certain moment compared to that exact same moment from Persephone pov. It was so amazing and I’m so thankful Scarlett decided to make the second part of the series from Hades pov, it really adds a lot to the characters and how their relationships work with one another. I am beyond excited for the next one to be released in May!

I’m a sucker for Persephone and Hades retellings and so this was perfect for me. Though this book is basically a Touch of Darkness but from Hades point of you you don’t really notice that because he’s really has his own plot going on in this book which I really liked because I didn’t wanna just be reading a Touch of Darkness all over again. I loved that we got to see more of the gods because in Persephone‘s world she’s very isolated from the gods but Hades is right there with them and so that was very nice to read more about. This is more modern so it really made the gods more interesting and more intriguing especially Hecate and Hermes. Hermes is hilarious and every time he appeared in the book I had to market because he just made me laugh and then Hecate her relationship with Hades is so cute they have this sibling close friendship and the way that they go out each other is so much like siblings. I love the little competition that they have going on to see who can sneak up on the other I hope that keeps getting mention throughout the series because I think that’s a cute touch. I especially love that Hecate is one of the only gods that can call he’s out on his bullshit and not get in trouble for it because he’s scared of her in a way. My one complaint with this book is that Hades is very much a horn dog. Every time he talks about Persephone he talks about her lovingly and then he talks about wanting to fuck her and I get it dude you really like her but come on. When they finally got together it was just sex all the time even though there were some cute moments. That was my only complaint really but they were still super cute together. All in all a good read.

While A Touch of Darkness lacked depth and a compelling plot, A Game of Fate had it in spades (GET IT BECAUSE POKER!!!)

I really enjoyed watching the same story unfurl but from Hades POV. Getting an inside look at the interworkings of the Gods was really cool and Hermes and Hecate made me love them. I was also right in my hatred for Minthe in the first book, which has me stoked. I could tell she was a bad egg. Looking forward to where the reset of the series goes.

I think a lot of people are giving this book a 4/5 because it's way better than the first book. Including me. If you were frustrated with Persephone in the first book, this book does a much better job and giving you a tolerable main character. I have seen people go after reviewers for saying the Hades perspective is better than Persephone's and calling them "misogynistic". There is nothing wrong with female POV novels. In fact, I quite like them. But only when that female character is actually well written and intelligent. Not to dwell on Touch of Darkness, but how many times did Persephone have to be told Hades isn't the God of Death?

Yeah.

Pros:
The Hades perspective allows you to see other characters you don't see at all or very often in Persephone's perspective. This includes Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Poseidon, and (my personal favorite) Hecate. I think St. Clair shines in writing side characters. There are two additional plotlines exclusive to this book which keep it interesting despite being a companion to Touch of Darkness.

Cons:
I'm sure others have a different opinion than me, but the amount of sex scenes is (obviously the same as Touch of Darkness) really distracting. I understand they love each other but does every scene between Hades and Persephone have to end in sex? It really distracts from the plot and emotions at times. Also, no amount of Hades simping for Persephone will make me like her.

Overall:
This is better than Touch of Darkness. Hades is participating in more interesting plotlines and the inclusion of other characters is fun and interesting. I'm still not a fan of the way St Clair writes and I think I'm only finishing the series because I'm already two books deep. Might as well finish the rest.

St Clair has 4 more books (as of now) to convince me that Persephone is a character I should like and see as anything more than whiny.

This was a cute (?) addition to the series. However, I found myself skimming a lot as about 80-90% of the book are events we already read about in A Touch of Darkness, but in this book, from Hades POV. Hades is hilarious and always has one thing on his mind - sex!
