I used to love these books (I owned all three!) when I was a kid. They used to scare the snot out of me but I loved all the scary stuff. I read this as a bingo spot and I can say I still love the book. Of course, the scary stuff isn't as scary, but I can still imagine getting sweaty palms and heart palpitations back in the day. Good for middle schoolers and up. Some of the stories are a little bit macabre (cannibalism) but they're not too bad, I don't think.

In 1984 Alvin Schwartz saw the release of the second of his Scary Stories trilogy, More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. The tales presented are very brief, and collected from various realms of folklore. Schwartz rewrote them, and Stephen Gammell adds illustrations that create an atmosphere and add depth to the reading experience. This installment, like all the books in the trilogy, were beloved and well-remembered by people of my generation, 80s and early 90s kids. However, these books have become “banned” over the years, mainly at the public-school level. It was in elementary school that I first discovered these twisted tales with their haunted imagery...

Still has a few gems but not as much as the first one. Majority of the stories are okay. Illustrations are still top tier, the best. References and footnotes are still a treat for a self proclaimed nerd like me.
