This was a thrilling jawdropper with really specific and strong details of New York (though 12.5% tip wouldn't fly there even in 2008!). A really easy read for a chilly weekend with some great twists. Also loved the little Easter egg references to Jimmy the Hat Fellini and other characters from the Eddie Flynn world.

Steve Cavanagh's KILL FOR ME, KILL FOR YOU is riveting from the first page. There are mostly two perspectives: 1) Amanda, who needs to right the injustice that Wallace Crone killed her daughter Jess, which spurred her husband to commit suicide, and 2) Ruth, a woman who narrowly escapes death after a man breaks in and attacks her. (There is also an occasional perspective from a detective, which doesn't add a whole lot, but breaks up the narrative a bit.)

Amanda meets Wendy at her grief group, and Wendy approaches her with a plan that seems suspiciously similar to Strangers on a Train, with the two women killing the man responsible for the other's loved one's death.

I enjoyed how the author connects these two plots, and I particularly liked the character of Billy when he was introduced in the second half.

I had been familiar with the author's novels that take place in the courtroom, so I was happy to find out that this one mostly takes place outside the courtroom. Nice change of pace!

This is an outstanding thriller that has a couple twists, but isn't completely outlandish. It is very propulsive, and I read it in a day!

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When Amanda and Wendy meet at a bereavement group in downtown New York City they form an unexpected friendship. When they meet for drinks one night, they plan the unimaginable. They plan to murder the people who killed their families. When Amanda follows her daughter's killer and realizes that he isn't where he should be, she thinks it's odd - until Wendy calls her and tells her she already kept her part of the deal and now it's Amanda's turn. Amanda's plan doesn't work out at all and she knows she must run. When Amanda meets someone from Wendy's past, she realizes that she is not all she appears to be.

I'm a big fan of Steve Cavanagh but this one seemed a little long for me and didn't keep my attention like his others did. The premise of this book is the same as Strangers on a Train (this is mentioned several times in the book so not a spoiler) with a few more twists. The twists were well-done and unexpected, which is always good. I also enjoy a story with dual timelines that merge at the climax of the story. For me, the story could have been about ten chapters shorter and I would have been satisfied.
