I know this took me ages cause if I'm being truthful, I got sucked into the booktok community. If I'm being completely honest, I really liked this book, it kind of chucked me back into the fantasy genre and was really fun to visualise all that again. Also I absolutely loved How To Train A Dragon when I was a kid so when I saw a cover on Prime Reading with a strong, badass female and a awesome looking dragon, I naturally decided to read it. I have a feeling about Wilder and Sophia, and I just like seeing how much the Dragon Elite have changed as they adjust to the amazing and incomparable Sophia Beaufont.

Sophia Beaufont found a dragon egg when she was nine. Dragons were thought to have been extinct, since the Dragon Elite has vanished for over 500 years... until her egg hatches. Sent to Scotland to learn about the Dragon Elite, she finds men who have isolated themselves and have become complacent. Will she be able to help show the mortal world the force of the Dragon Elite as the adjudicators, or will they stay hidden, scared of the new modern world they have abandoned?

This is my first Noffke book, and I thought that it would be hard to understand since this is a spin-off series but the author made it easy for anyone to jump into. Even though if I want to read her earlier books, I know major spoilers lol. This book is definitely just building up the plot, with minor events (in my opinion) so don't expect anything crazy. But, I really enjoyed Sophia and Lunis' relationship throughout, and the relationships she has with the Dragon Elite. I didn't rate it high because
Spoiler it has 'i am the chosen' vibes written all over, and everything she does is as easy as breathing. I wish it took her longer to do certain things, or have more struggle.
, but it was still a good read. I would recommend this for a beginner into the dragon genre.

Disappointing. Mostly because I read the Liv Beaufont series and enjoyed the Sophia from that series. The Sophia in this one is different, which is weird since this series picks up exactly where the last one left off.

I’m disappointed that Sophia is *somehow* all of a sudden jaded, disenchanted and lacks any imagination. She was so easy going— go with the flow before. I always felt like Liv was mean-spirited a lot of the time (especially when insulting others looks) and loved how accepting Sophia was of things and beings she didn’t understand. It saddens me to see Sophia treating rudolf with the same level of disrespect as Liv while using him for his help and resources. She’s rude.

It blows my mind that this girl who grew up in a house that changed around her and expertly explored a library that shifted around you has SUCH trouble comprehending the castle and how everything isn’t as it seems. Especially because the main theme is that the castle takes you where you need/want to go which is the same mechanics as the library.

Lastly, I’m over the amount of times the same concept needs to be explained to this supposed prodigy before she understands.

This is basically Liv2.0 but I do appreciate that the quips aren’t as plentiful in this book..

DNF at about 10%

Seems to be geared more for children or those who like simplistic stories.

I really enjoyed The Uncommon Rider and didn't want to put it down. The series is a spin off from the Unstoppable Liv Beaufont series, so it's great that we still get to see many of the characters we grew to love in that series. But there is enough information provided in this book that it can be read without having read Liv's books (although you won't want to miss them!). Sophia is a fun, modern heroine! I loved her interactions with the 'old' male dragon riders. There are some awesome new characters and I particularly loved Ainsley and of course Sophia's dragon Lunis. Plenty of magic, action and adventure. I can't wait for the next book.
