There’s just something about Christina Lauren’s books that I don’t vibe with. The premise of these books are super interesting. Here are some points that I don’t like:
(1) the cut scenes. I was so confused in chapter one where they suddenly cut from Jess in the bathroom to Jess and Fizzy in the cafe. -.25 points. (2) the way the resolve 3rd act break up. I never liked 3rd act breakup, but this one seemed logical (albeit cliche), but he ghosted her for 8 days at work, and all he did was show up at her house, asking her back and she is just back. I never liked makeup sec, srr. -.25 points. (3) I thought it was kinda cute how he went ring shopping because he thought about her, but why did Fizzy have to demand to have a say in the ring choice and how he proposed? Even if they’re best friends, that made very little sense to me. I think it would be better if River just asks Jess straight away. -.25 points. (4) At the beginning of the book, River was painted as a kind of rude guy who tips only in coins and who didn’t hold the door for Hess, as well as calling her “average “. But the way they resolved these misunderstandings is super annoying to me. It was like overnight, River is actually a nice, thoughtful guy. It was so abrupt. -.25 points. (5) the proposal was not what I imagined. Jess caused him to have a little anxious moment because she wanted to propose to him at the beach. And I don’t appreciate anxious moments, but I will let this slide, because the bigger problem is why was Jess uncertain when she proposed to him? I rather they talk more about this stuff. They were super communicative in the first half of the book, I loved that so much. -.25 points.

I can imagine this as a perfect feel good romcom family movie. I adored all the characters and this is the best book if you are looking for a cute and fast read. After a tiring week, I am so glad I read this.

This actually reminded me of The Love Hypothesis but with more scientific terms.

I really really enjoyed this book. I was crying like a baby at some parts! Like full on ugly cry! Sometimes with the single parent trope the kid can be a little annoying, underwhelming, OR worse completely ignored as a character. Juno (the child in question) was completely adorable and well written. River and Jess were such a cute couple. Their relationship was really fleshed out and I fell in love with all three of them. Not to mention, the whole idea of a biological soulmate was super interesting. I 100% think I am becoming a Christina Lauren Stan!

There is not much bad I can say about this book (except for some stereotypes I'm not a huge fan of). However, there is not much good I can say about this book either. It's just mediocre. There is nothing special about the story, about the characters, about their connection... It feels like reading an absolutely random straight rom-com. And I don't want to feel like that while reading. I want to be excited to read the particular book I'm reading. Well, it didn't work for me.
