Well this was an unexpected treasure.
I ended up finding out about this book through the author advertising it on TikTok.
No regrets to reading it,
There was however tons of grammatical errors you wouldn’t expect but it didn’t effect the way it reads.

“He made her feel like she could submit to him and he would only respect her more because of it, not less.”

10/10 would recommend to my dark romance reader friends .

It is a slow burn, so brace yourself.

A strong willed girl looking for a dominant man. An addicting love story with some twists and turns. Must read.

This story just didn’t land for me.

I’m all for spicy with no real plot as long as it’s entertaining and this wasn’t it. Situations were highlighted that I don’t think brought anything to this story

When @readbelievelove asks you to buddy read something with an author called Golden Angel, you do it. Immediately.

Angel - no relation to the author - is interested in the BDSM scene, but doesn't know much. So, she pretends to be a Dom when she visits a local sex club. She didn't think showing up as a submissive would be a good idea in a club full of dominant males. When she meets Adam, there's instant chemistry but he is perplexed by her claiming to be a Dom. He's so hung up on it that when she shows up to another sex club as a submissive, he's pissed. (Obviously a complete stranger should give him the full truth, and only the truth.) When he does an intro scene with her, he takes his irritation out on her, well... As much as he can within reason. Can Adam get over himself and his giant ego to pursue a relationship with Angel since he can't fight their attraction?

Dude is jealous. And can't get over things. And it was crazy annoying. Also, based on the cover, you'd think this was pure heat the whole time, but not so much. I mean it was when it was, but there was a lot of delving into Adam being an ass hat.

This book just wasn’t for me.

I’m not a fan of the miscommunication trope, especially since it dragged for more than half the book. It got too annoying for me to enjoy the book. Adams’s possessiveness also got really annoying.

There’s too much borderline abusive behavior for a BDSM novel, imo. A lot of Adam’s poor behavior (especially in that first scene) makes it seem like crap like that is ok in the bdsm community but it’s not. You should never scene angry. This book reminded me of everything that was not ok with the 50 Shades books.

The only enjoyable parts of the book, for me, were the spicy scenes. Those were very hot and enjoyable 🥵. And even then, I sometimes had to ignore Adam’s bad behavior and/or words.

If I was a writer I might be able to explain how much I loved this book, but I'm not, and I'm practically speechless.
Ok, I'm going to start with something simple, the length. It might not be a big deal to some, but I love my books long and full of detail. This one satisfied me perfectly with both of those things. I also love well developed characters who are complex and sometimes surprising in their actions and words. Again, this one had that. Not only were Adam and Angel perfect, but they are surrounded by numerous friends and family who have the same qualities. The romance was natural and lustfull, and I actually teared up even though I knew it would end in a HEA. I also loved that this book is just a romance. There isn't suspense or danger. There isn't any mystery or violent ex. The story is just about Adam and Angel trying to navigate through their feelings for each other. I loved the glimpses into their thoughts and the mixed POV. I loved that by the end of the story I knew the characters well enough to have an idea about how they would react to something. The characters were SO REAL!
I tried to pace myself, because I didn't want to stop reading this, but I still reached the last page. Now, I sit here, desperately wanting to dive into the next book, but instead I'm sitting here trying to convince you that you NEED this book. Trust me, YOU DO NEED IT! It is everything that makes a wonderful story. EVERYTHING! I could have spent months reading about Adam and Angel, and their wedding, children, grandchildren, etc... I'm sure you get the point, but I also want to find out about the lives of the other members of Stronghold. I know I will read this book over and over, and I know any romance lover will enjoy it just as MUCH as I did.

I really enjoyed Adam and Angel's story, it's a long read but this allowed us to have plenty of story to go with the amazingly steamy BDSM scenes. I loved the dynamic between the couple, even when their own insecurities and issues started to claw away at them, they didn't allow this to build up into silly misunderstandings based on not talking. Their connection was undeniable and I totally believed in their chemistry. Despite their initial strong attraction, their relationship never felt rushed and we didn't get ridiculous declarations of love within a few days of them meeting.

Angel made me smile with so many of her comments, especially during negotiations for and then during scenes. I frequently wanted to high five her, she often responded with exactly the thoughts that were running through my brain. It made my day that here was a submissive who was going to disagree when she felt the need.

I also liked how the big moody alpha Dom had an insecure streak and acknowledged that he wasn't 'Mr Perfect and Always Right'. Nothing annoys me more than characters that are too perfect or too overbearing, so it was easy to adore both Adam and Angel.

The book also does a lot of world building for the Stronghold club and it's members. I think this is part of why this was a long story, we were getting to know Adam and Angel's friends just as much as we got to know this pair. Not only do I now want to read the rest of the series and the ones this is a spin-off from, I also own the next two books and will be reading them asap.
