I accidentally read the third book in the series before this one (thank you audible for not properly cataloging books), and it was quite confusing.

Now the plot makes sense.

We follow Captain Innocente, co-captain Pinky, and the crew of the Sirena Negra as they pick up where the last book left off. They cross the galaxy to harry the fridge. When her sister approaches her to work for the agency that is trying to take down the Fridge, the crew agree, and once again, the reader is off on a farflung adventure through space.

This book is as funny if not funnier than the first. I think the plot is stronger, and the way it handles both physical disabilities, mental health, and family drama was so healing and so very real. I adored this book.

I had so much fun reading the first book in this series, and Prime Deceptions absolutely continued that trend. These books are like Becky Chambers' Wayfarers series combined with The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, with a smattering of Mass Effect. And in this one, there's even Pokémon! Well, of a sort. The found family vibes of the crew are so wonderful, and the universe they inhabit is so diverse and deep. Prime Deceptions is super fun, genuinely funny, and full of diversity to boot!

This was an exciting, fun, espionage and mercenaries sort of adventure with great aliens, skillful universe building, and so much diversity woven effortlessly through it all.

I just can't get enough of mouthy Captain Eva Innocente and her oddball crew.
