Who's one of your favorite fantasy femme fatales?

Mine is currently the Princess of Vilora, the Ghost Raven, the reluctant Keeper,  and the Champion of the Druids - Theralin Revencloud.

✨ Thera is a raven-haired nomad who fights like a soldier and can extract sensitive information from anyone, for a price. She is a woman shrouded in mystery, with a very special gift. As the main character of Gypsy Secrets by @JLvampa , Thera works to find her place in her world.

Gypsy Secrets is a companion novella to The Queen's Keeper and gives us more insight into the magical world of Aureland and the battle against the dark Queen Pietro of Orford. I loved revisiting the characters from the first book but my favorite thing was seeing Thera's history and the development of her skills. Her relationships were so genuine and won through respect and sacrifice. Her ultimate sacrifice at the end of the story will have you reeling but shows how much she cares for her found family.

❤️ Gypsy Secrets is a wonderful read and I'm giving it 5 stars for memorable, lovable characters and epic world building. Vampa's bantering writing style is easy to read and she injects a certain well-traveled wisdom into her characters that makes you connect with them like they are old friends.

I love the way J.L. Vampa writes so I had high hopes for this short book. She writes in a way that really works for me, her descriptions of food, clothes, people, places, everything are always done in a way that I can totally imagine the things she's describing as if I can see them right in front of me in real life.

This book is a closer look into Thera's past, who was one of my favourite characters in The Queen's Keeper, so I was super eager to read it and while I'm not at all disappointed, I sort of want more too. More Dax, more Ghost Raven stories, more flifna and more Nuria (I would ADORE a novella on her past!), but I also know that the desire to read more of what I've just finished is a testament to how good the writing is and how enjoyable the book is.

Top tip: although the book is set before The Queen's Keeper timeline wise, I would say that you should read them in the order released to get the most from the story.

Wow my goodness, I loved this book! After being completely besotted with the first book in this series, this book certainly lived up to my expectations. While we wait for the sequel to the first book, this story from within the same universe, really made me remember how much I love these novels and the writing style.

Each character within this story is so well written that I would love to know more about each and every one of them. It was such a treat to be able to learn about Thera's history because it makes me respect her even more and it really helps to understand her story. It also shows us just how big her heart is and what she is willing to do for those she loves.

As always, there are multiple quotes that stick out throughout the book, but my favourite from this novel is: "I think we'd all do well to remember that no matter what does or does not happen, nothing is more important than family, blood relation or no". It really makes me happy that the ones you love become your family, because that's what you choose to be to each other.

I was happy to get a chance to return to this world after Queen's Keeper, and I have to admit, it didn't hurt that Gypsy Secrets was following my favorite character's backstory. Thera is a strong, independent warrior, and through the twists and turns of this novella the readers got to know her better, ups and downs. I can't wait to continue with this universe and to see what J.L. Vampa has in store for us next.

It’s was so much fun getting back into this world and to go on more adventures with one of my favorite characters. I enjoyed getting to know Thera more as I loved her in The Queen’s Keeper. She has a fascinating past and I look forward to seeing what her future holds. She’s incredibly smart, sassy and full of fire. I adore her.

The world building is beautiful and easy to picture. The magic system is fun and feels fresh which is phenomenal when you read a lot of fantasy novels. The characters flow naturally together and are not awkward and forced. Gypsy Secrets is well written and captivating.
