Definitely not what I expected by the synopsis on the back of the book, but still a well written story

Impossible things happen within a span of days (should have been months).
Too much of a slow burn to get what the book is actually about.

Took me forever to get through this book. I love Koontz, have every one of his books I could get my little hands on. My suggestion would be to skip the first 150 pages and start from there. I had to literally drag myself through the first half of this book. The second half was much better. But reading a book really shouldn't be that much work.

I really hated Ryan’s girlfriend, Sam. She was portrayed as being all knowledgeable about the deeper meanings of things and all ethos bullcrap. To me she was just a useless character. (May or may not write a full review later. To be clear, I did really enjoy this though)

This was my first book by this author and unfortunately i was not impressed. The story seemed to be off on tangents and then very quickly summed up in the last few chapters. It may have been that it was an audio book, however i'm not sure. I will probably try again with this author, so i hope that the others are better.

I love me some Dean Koontz, but this is the worst book I've read from him. Everything felt thrown together and lazy, too predicatable, trite and left me feeling very little for the characters and barely anything after the end. A few weeks from now I won't even remember what it was about.

Ahhg. I was expecting scary. Instead, I just got misogynistic patriarchal sexist machismo crap. I'm a manly man and I do manly things and this is my beautiful girlfriend. Look at her, she's so pretty. Oh wait, midlife crisis, I need to go off on my own for a while. Me me me. All about me. Alright, story's over, she can come back now. I was too annoyed by all of this to really enjoy the psycho scariness of the story. Sorry, Dean, I really wanted to like it.
