This is my second time through this book and I have to sat that it was even better than I remember. The prose poetry alone is enough to give this book 5 stars, but the implications of what Fitzgerald had to say about America and the tragic story of selfish and utterly detestable people is one of beauty. I agree with others who believe this to be one of, if not the, great American novel of the 1900's.

Unfortunately it really is That Good. I don't side with people who think this book is God (most of whom don't really seem to understand it), nor do I side with the people who write it off as "required reading" and "dead white men lit" (most of whom, I suspect, could not name 1 classic written by a person of color). But the writing is killer and the tragedy is enchanting so.

Trying to tick off some classics & thought I’d start with this book

Not sure if I would have liked this book so much if I didn’t love the movie already, but it is a beautifully written tragic story

Bored bored bored. Never connected with any of the characters. I think it is terrible that high school students are forced to read this in English. So many better books out there.
