This book convinced me that the justice system is in place to create criminals and the overseers themselves are the only real criminals. I'm touched by Jimmy Baca not letting the prison crush his soul and how he fashioned poetry and forgiveness out of his experience.

Very good book. It's a great memoir but at some parts it seems to drag on.

Raw. Brutally honest. Breathtaking. No way I could have given less than 5 stars.

this book was very vulnerable and baca’s journey is amazing. i think this is a really important read for people to be aware of their own biases and to understand how trapping the cycle of poverty is, how the institutions in this country take away people’s control over their own lives. baca regained his and was able to tell his story, which is so powerful
