This book was much less angsty than the previous. It was also more snarcky and fun. The "big, bad crisis" in this book was rather predictable and the romantic relationship evolved rather sudden. Especially because we didn't hear much about Callys feelings before he suddenly sprung declarations of love out of the blue. Of course we knew from the beginning that the two MCs we're designated lovers, but there weren't any of the delicious longing from the other books. It was still an okay book, but I didn't connect with the lovestory and I didn't get any angst, hence I'm disappointed.

I don’t find Avon Gale’s writing to be the best, but I do love the characters, their internal and external conflicts, and their growth, and this boom was no exception.

Scoring Chances is easily one of my favourite series currently being written. Gale's low-angst, feel-good stories are consistently filled with lovable characters, satisfyingly smexy times, scenes that make me smile, a general thread of acceptance - of self and of others - that warms my heart, romance, and of course, plenty of hockey.

Unfortunately, while Coach's Challenge definitely brought the heat in the bedroom with all of that extra dirty talk and public sex, it lacked the tenderness and romance that would have balanced those scenes out (and made me appreciate them even more). And, while Troy and Shane's banter was entertaining, without at least a few softer moments, I am not sure that I really believed the transition from scorching taboo sex between a coach and his player to the I love yous and self-sacrifice at the end. I mean, the dramatic declarations of love scene was there and it was good, but the characters never quite dropped their alpha male posturing for long enough to be truly vulnerable with each other - something I am always looking for in those scenes.

Still, it was a good book, and I can't wait for Xavier's story. That's coming, right? I mean, it's gotta. That poor boy needs someone to love him.

I really loved the feisty banter between Troy and Shane. They were a really fun couple but I wasn’t quite as engaged in the story overall as I was with the last two books in the series. Still really enjoyed it though!
