2010: Odyssey Two by Arthur C. Clarke

More a sequel to the film version of 2001 than the novel version (although the two are closer than usual), I found it slightly jarring to begin with. This is because, where the two version of 2001 differ, Clarke has taken the film version of events as canon, rather than his own.

It is worth reading, but perhaps not back to back with 2001!

Slightly harder to digest without a movie image like the first book. But still full of grand adventure, mystery, and moments of levity throughout all the tension. Enjoyed the changing narrator which struck a nice balance between mystery and alien answers.
