Took a while to get into due to my reading slump. But goodness she writes well, such well developed characters, such great scene setting. Must go back and read dome of her other books

A marvelous family saga and a new author to enjoy. I am thankful to my English professor for selecting this book for our class.

I enjoyed this book, maybe not as much as "White Teeth," but I still liked it. The characters are all so flawed and believable, and I like Smith's writing style. She's not preachy and she takes on big issues head on (race, education, family strife, ideas of self, cultural identity). I think the themes were probably more interesting to me in light of the current divisive political climate, and increasing media coverage of longstanding racial biases.

never new the academy could be so much fun; probably knew it could be so racist.

Not my favorite Zadie Smith, but such a well constructed, bitingly funny, and insightful novel.
