I had trouble getting into this one. I was really stuck around page 80, but I wanted to see it to the end (I really like Sherlock Holmes). I'm glad I stuck with it because the mystery really picked up. I surprisingly wasn't sure at all how things were going to end and how two seemingly unconnected mysteries were going to be linked, but the end was good. Not at all what I was expecting, but the explanations and reason Holmes gave were satisfying.

I love that we’re taken back into the world of Sherlock Holmes (from Watson’s POV), but I found myself extremely disinterested in the Flat Cap Gang.

The best way to describe this is that it was like watching an episode of Sherlock (with Cumberbatch and Freeman). Just delightful. Maybe it's really 4 stars?

If you like Sherlock Holmes, you’ll like this book. The author does an excellent homage to the original Holmes mysteries through the voice of Watson.

Utterly fantastic. As much as I miss certain literary friends, I have become wary of pastiche. Too often revisits of classic characters are a disappointment. I am happy to say that The House of Silk is a stand-out exception. The tone, character, and plotting are exactly on point with Arthur Conan Doyle's adventures, and the story as a whole fits comfortably with the Sherlock Holmes canon.

audiobook note: Derek Jacobi is simply perfect as the voice of Dr. Watson. I understand he is recording adaptations of the original stories, and I will eagerly seek them out.

Wordy and so so so slow moving. I could not get into this story and it took me two entire months to finish it. The mystery itself had a feeling of gaudy sensationalism, although everything did wrap up neatly at the end. The book tried to evoke the feeling of a true Sherlock story, but I wasn't convinced.

Felt very fanciful. Not sure how to put it, but it felt too poetic to be anything but good fan fiction. You can tell that, unlike Doyle, Horowitz enjoys writing about Holmes.

Good but not true to the original style? That may be a plus or minus for you
