Loved everything about this book including the plot, the characters, the story line and the writing.
There were a couple of twists and turns that I did not see coming - so that was refreshing.
I have the next two in the series, so will be getting into those shortly

Not a bad read, combines a cosy mystery with urban fantasy. You don't meet the murder victim so she's a bit depersonalised. Manfred Bernardo moves to Midnight, Texas and finds that the surface appearance isn't what is in the country, the 24 hour pawn shop is interesting.
When a picnic leads to a body being discovered, the body of a missing woman, things get interesting.
It wasn't a bad read, it just didn't really hold my interest.

A character-driven paranormal mystery, Midnight Crossroad was the perfect choice for my Halloween reading. I'm not a horror fan but very much liked this tiny Texas town filled with strange, quirky, and sometimes creepy characters.

This book is great. Read it because I wanted to check out the show. Manfred did annoy me a couple of times though. Because I was thinking if you truly have the gift then use it right. Manfred moves into this small town and before he knows it he's involved indirectly in a murder case among other things. But all he's really interested in doing is making money from his physic ability and try to find a way to get to know Creek more. The town is full of secrets and magical things I think. Can't wait to get into the next book.

This is the new series by Charlaine Harris and there are lots of characters from other books in it, which let me tell you sent me down some rabbit holes since I have read ALL of her books and I had to remember where they came from. But it was fun, I like the town and the characters, they all have great back stories, maybe I liked them so much because I actually knew the back stories. Gotta give Harris her props, my jaw actually fell open at the end of the who dunnit.

I was in the mood for a sci-fi/ supernatural reading. Looking on the shelves of my local library everything seemed to be war based and huge, not want I wanted. Having read the True Blood series ages ago when I spotted Harris's name I thought I'd give it a go. It reads very much like a retro Stephen King which I liked. Although the main story gets resolved, it feels like a set up for a series and I think there is another one. I will probably read the next one if I spot it but I'm not desperate to track it down. Overall enjoyable 👍

I'm in a group that does a monthly challenge. For April the challenge is to read the books I’ve been saving for a rainy day, with the intent being that I find something I love. So far this hasn't happened, but at least I've checked several of them off my list.
I've wanted to read this book ever since I saw the TV series, so it's been on my list for a while. I enjoyed the TV series, but didn't love it. I was interested in seeing the source material because I suspected it would be even better than the series. After reading this I'll say that there are things I like better about the book, and things I like better about the TV series. There were definitely quite a few changes for the TV series, but I didn't think they were all bad. What I wasn't expecting was for this to be so slow paced, but the slow pace didn't really bother me. This felt kind of like a slice of life story with weird, unique characters that all had something to hide.
The murder mystery aspect of the story was just ok. I didn't figure out who the killer was, and I feel like it was because there weren't enough clues given. Either that or I wasn't paying enough attention. I didn't really care who killed the woman because my mind was more focused on the mystery surrounding the townsfolk, and who and what they were. That being said, I was hoping to really like the characters, but I ended up feeling kind of indifferent about them. Fiji was the most likeable for me, but even she was a bit bland.
Fiji is a witch, and I had a problem with the inconsistent use of her powers. There is one point where she freezes someone and does it quite easily, and then later when her life is in danger, she doesn't even think to do the same thing in that situation until far later than she should have. It seemed like it was conveniently forgotten to add to the drama and danger of the situation, and then conveniently remembered to finally get her out of it.
I'm on the fence about continuing with this series. For now I'll plan on reading the next book, and I'll see if my feelings change about it later.
