There’s a lot of body horror in this book. Honestly, if I’d checked my CW’s, I wouldn’t have read it. BUT I’m glad I did. While the body horror was really bad for me at times, I’m glad I stuck it out.
The humor in this book is not really my sense of humor, but again, I’m glad I stuck it out. It’s really well written, funny, and touching.
I read this on audio book, and it’s very well narrated. All around, I would recommend this book (assuming you can deal with how grotesque it it at times, it really doesn’t pull any punches).

Okay, but not great. It felt a bit repetitive and somewhat aimless. I didn't love the writing style, either. Too many similes, too frequently. Maybe it's because I'm aphantasic, but it would've been better with fewer descriptions.

I think this is objectively a great book, but I didn't love reading it. I did enjoy a lot of the writing style - ST's voice is hilarious and fresh and there are a lot of clever lines and laugh-out-loud phrasings. The initial mystery of what's going on is also intriguing. However, I'm not a big fan of zombie stories, and especially what happens to the humans near the end I found very unpleasant. I also don't love the way Dennis' death happened - it felt so stupid!! That might be the point but it just didn't land for me. Plot points aside, I also often got bored with the long, meandering descriptive paragraphs with very florid prose. So while I think this was objectively a pretty good book, it really wasn't for me.
