This one is pretty good. Part of the reason I'm not as enthused may just be that I only read it once and therefore don't have the same nostalgia towards it that I do towards the others. Well, that and the fact that certain characters are annoying. Buckler is great, though, and so is Axhel (sp?). And I do like how the villains ended up meeting their ends — poetic, in both cases.

No treasure hunting or riddles! That automatically makes it one of the better books in this series. The villain is a fierce and competent lady who has a dastardly plan that is more complex than beating on the doors of the abbey, and some awesome characters are introduced like Axtel the hammer swinging mole warrior. I was really engaged with this one and read it quickly.

Had I known that Jacques was going to die before writing another Redwall book, I would have read and savored this final book more slowly, I think. :(
