The crux of this story intrigued me. The Marvel world of super heroes face government certification—a process that requires surrendering their “secret” identities. Some are willing, some are not. The ensuing clash is told with great energy and vibrant vivid art work. The framing of the scenes involving multiple heroes balanced the colors to great effect. Quite fun to look at with 200 pages of rippling muscles, arched backs and elegant elongated athletic limbs all in distinct colorful costumes but the ending seemed more like a teaser for a grander project than this supposedly self contained 7 issue collection. A reasonable case is made for each side of this conflict with the crisis of conscience of Captain America being the highlight for me. While I don’t require stories to be wrapped up with a nice little bow, so much weight was given the impending final conflict that to have an ambiguous ending was a bit of a jaw dropper. Still a nice ride even though I didn’t care for the destination.

I rated this a 4 star originally based on my memory of the story, but upon re-reading it I can say it's easily a 5 star. My biggest qualm is with the ending, but the overall story itself is a must-read.

It was interesting to see a grittier and darker Marvel Universe. There were too many people though, the characters were detailed enough that they wanted you to be able to see who they were but there were people I'd never heard of! I liked it, some superheros want to be held accountable and others think they should be above the law. It was interesting see Captain America in that former role, and he seemed a bit arrogant during the whole story. I kinda sided more with Tony just because he was a bit more empathetic.

Meh. I do not see how the Interwebz can get excited about this particular storyline being made into a movie (based on fairly flimsy evidence, I should say). I also don't see why Spider-man is such an integral role that he MUST be in whatever movie adaptation there is. Seems like it would be more important to have a cybernetic clone of Thor... seemed a lot more essential to the plot.

And so what if Dr Strange decided to sit the fight out? It doesn't matter... whichever side has Sentry would singlehandedly wipe the floor and windows with the other team.(*spoiler alert* He doesn't seem to act like the Sentry, so his presence is wasted...like Marvel's use of the Man-Thing property.)

Overall, it was an enjoyable enough read. There's some truly comic moments (Ha!) though the ending was... just that, one of the sides essentially looks around and sobs and surrenders. The whole sub-plot with the Fantastic Four seems to exist solely to remind the reader that they do, in fact, exist. (Though Susan's personality pretty much makes her invisible as far as interesting characteristics go).

There are also too few meta-humans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to make this a viable movie... I mean, to have a Super Hero Registration Act, you need Super Heroes to register, right?

I’ve been reading the entire Civil War event this year. I read the main story years ago, but had never read the entire event. It’s MASSIVE. Reading all of the side series and one-shots, I can say now more than ever:

Absolutely f*** Tony Stark and Reed Richards.

With that out of the way, this event still holds a large place in my heart. The Civil War hardback was one of the first comics I read. I had no clue how much more there was to this event.
