How to review poetryā¦. Hmmm
I guess honesty is important! I did see myself in a few of these poems, and I enjoyed the themes the author used, places in a home āattic, front porchā that was a new take. Overall I didnāt really feel a lot from these poems. I did not cry, at all. And I like a good cry when I read poetry.

madisen kuhn is one of my all time favorite writers. sheās inspired me in my writing so much to be vulnerable and unforgivingly myself. her heart and soul and mind are so beautiful, and theyāre all splattered along the pages of all three of her books. almost home makes me miss the home i built within myself when i was younger, and reminds me that itās okay iām still rebuilding itāand even more so that i am finding things hidden behind the walls inside of me. thank you, madisen, for making me feel at home with your words. thank you for trusting meāusāwith your heart. i vow to protect it always.

Iāve read Kuhnās poetry since eighteen years came out and this collection feels like sheās really evolving as a poet. The way she played with form, digging deeper, and presenting raw, unfiltered poetry is something I adored about this collection. Watching her come into herself as a poet has been a beautiful thing.

As someone who has never felt like I had a home mentally or physically, this resonated a lot with me. This is a new favorite. š

Almost Home is a raw and honest tale of self discovery. Madisen beautifully writes about letting go of expectations and finding hope in who you will become. Itās a wonderful set of poems about growth.

I devoured this collection and loved essentially every poem and will be buying a copy for my library shelves. It was the perfect balance of emo/nostalgia for myself and experiences of my adolescence and early 20s and resonated deeply. I adored how the author organized the collection and the themes of a home (physically as well as mentally). It was artistically constructed and added to my overall reading experience. She also wove in a lot of nature infused metaphors which Iām always a sucker for in poetry. I canāt wait to read more of her collections especially as she ventures into new life events such as motherhood & her thirties.Ā
