great surprise, I enjoyed the characters and the plot was full of twists. An author to follow going forward, I hope he writes more in this style.

horror-esque. so intelligent and methodical. a movie in your head and cannot be seen in any other way than how simon toyne sees it. the technicalities of criminal investigations- their systems, lingo, raid approach- all were very accurate and detailed. characters i emoted over- hated, loved, and those who grew on me. so inspiring. in awe of the beautiful and disgusting writing of this thriller/mystery.

Simon Toyne shot to almost instant fame with "Sanctus" during the 90s. His follow-up books in the trilogy however never had the same success and one got the feeling that his writing was just not strong enough to carry the stories. However, with "Dark Objects", Toyne's writing perfectly matches the fast-moving and very engaging whodunit. Definitely worth reading.
