I liked the novel but did not really warm up to the MC's. Memorable story. A lot of focus was on the planning and how it all panned out was original. The narrator sometimes mistook a characters voice.

As with every K.J. Charles book I've read so far - once I started it, I couldn't stop until I was done.
I love how every character in her books is unique to any other she's written. Both Alec and Jerry are in no way typical and managed to surprise me - Alec turned out unexpectedly sly and Jerry unexpectedly sweet. I loved them both.
The setting seemed a touch over the top - I was a bit incredulous when it came to Alec's parents, but turns out they were based on a real couple.

Interesting to know that this was based on a real crime and situation. Alec was a great character with actions that were surprising at times.

This book made me yell at fictional characters

4.5 stars. Who doesn't like liars and thieves? A gentleman thief love interest always hits the spot. And the protagonist is a nice, relatable character: a struggling artist with just atrocious parents, always accommodating others and staying invisible while harboring strong emotions, both sweet and sad.
Is this a heist story, or a revenge story, or both? You should read and find out. There's also a delicious twist in the mix. It took me a bit to be fully drawn into the story but I got there.
Kind of a side note: I really like how Charles gives her characters some distinctive features. I often have a case of forgot-what-they-looked-like and I'm completely enamored by Jerry's eyebrows or Hart's thighs (in [b:The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting|56239247|The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting|K.J. Charles|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1607596576l/56239247._SY75_.jpg|87603321]).
Now I'm actually going to read the second book, even though it has a MF pairing, and I haven't much bothered with them anymore.
