I could not put this book down. Written in two perspectives: the narrator and Pip's senior project notes; I often found myself reading well past the "just one more chapter" mantra that I was telling myself.

Pip is a high school senior and for her senior project, she's decided to solve the murder of Andie Bell.

Well... the term "solve the murder" might be a little misleading. You see, the police have already solved the murder. It was the boyfriend (Sal) - always is, right? But Pip just doesn't buy it. She knew Sal growing up and he was far from the murdering type.

As Pip uncovers layers of truth - and more lies from her suspects - she starts to piece things together. Painting us a picture of who Andie really was and what she was doing with each of the suspects in the weeks leading up to her disappearance.

I am blown away that this is Holly Jackson's first published novel. And very excited to learn that this book is one of three. Already have the other two on hold at the library. Perfect for the spooky season lover or murder mystery connoisseur.

It was enjoyable and I found myself not wanting to put it down but there were parts that were so far fetched it just made me annoyed. Sure I got over it in the end which is why I finished it but there were still parts that were far too questionable for my liking. Mostly just read the book so I could watch the show, I’ll still probably read the other books they are supposedly better.

3.5⭐️. I thought this was an interesting who-dunnit that had some good twists and kept me guessing until the very end. I had no clue who the killer was going to be until the very end, which I really liked.

I did find it quite unrealistic that a 17-18 year old teenager with no authority whatsoever was able to get as many people as she did to talk to her even when they didn’t want to. Like the drug dealer just deciding to talk after being shown the blackmail pictures? Getting Max to divulge as much as he did? And Mr. Ward just spilling everything when Pip went to that house ALONE? I mean, she had dirt on them all, but still, you wouldn’t expect adult (criminal) men to just give up that much information to a teenage girl. The number of times when either she or her and Ravi were alone with dangerous people and realistically should have gotten their asses kicked or killed, or had themselves forcibly removed, but didn’t, was staggering. But I guess there wouldn’t have been much of a book if she would have been shut down by everyone she tried to talk to like she probably would have in real life

I really liked the audiobook version of this. The main actor did a great job with the nuances of the different emotions and it made me enjoy the book more. I also liked the way the plot was delivered. It was very obvious that the author was trying to convince you to look at the wrong people first but kept you guessing until the very end of who the real killer was.

However, I'm not a fan of high school girls who are smart but so stupid at the same time. And throughout the whole book, you're gonna tell me she had nothing else to worry about except for this "project"? I don't think so.
